ALPENA, Mich. (WPBN\/WGTU)\u2014 Three athletes from Northeast Michigan are set to make history as the first Alpena gymnasts to compete at the AAU Junior Olympics in Houston, Texas, next week. <\/p>\n
Brooke Smith, Callie Brousseau, and Faith Dragiewicz, who have been involved in gymnastics since childhood, will represent their hometown on the national stage.<\/p>\n
These seniors recently took gold in their respective events at the National Championships in Florida last month, showcasing their exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.<\/p>\n
“The biggest thing we know, and they know this, is that gymnastics for us is not just to produce fantastic gymnasts; it is to create strong women,” said Geri Samp, their gymnastics coach. “And I can honestly say these three girls are extremely strong, emotionally, mentally, and physically. And that is going to carry into everything they do.”<\/p>\n
