Few of the players seemed to be in a festive mood, however.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because the Dodgers warmed up for Family Day with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/gameday\/brewers-vs-dodgers\/2025\/07\/20\/777070\/final\/box\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:6-5 loss;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">6-5 loss<\/a> to the Milwaukee Brewers, the team\u2019s third straight loss and the 10th\u00a0in 12 games in which they\u2019ve been outscored 71-36. How it&#8217;s impacting pitchers at all levels<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cGuys are getting frustrated,\u201d manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2025-07-18\/dodgers-second-half-pitching-shohei-ohtani-hitting\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Dave Roberts;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Dave Roberts<\/a> said. \u201cYou see kind of more emotion coming in. We just haven&#8217;t played good baseball.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But it gets worse: the Dodgers (58-42) might have lost first baseman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2025-07-17\/dodgers-freddie-freeman-documentary-driven-mlb-network\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Freddie Freeman;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Freddie Freeman<\/a> for a spell. Freeman, who is among the team leaders in batting average (.292) and is third in runs (47) and hits (95), sustained a left wrist contusion after being hit by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/q\/quintjo01.shtml\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Jos\u00e9 Quintana;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Jos\u00e9 Quintana<\/a> pitch in the sixth inning. Roberts said X-rays on Freeman\u2019s wrist were negative and the first baseman is considered day to day.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat one, I held my breath,&#8221; Roberts said. &#8220;I think we all did, because, you know, when you&#8217;re scuffling and to potentially lose a guy for four-to-six weeks is obviously very scary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Freeman&#8217;s absence, catcher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2025-05-14\/dodgers-dalton-rushing-austin-barnes-call-up\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Dalton Rushing;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Dalton Rushing<\/a> could play at first base.<\/p>\n<p>As for the rest of what ails the Dodgers, that could be a lot harder to fix.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday they made three errors, leading to two unearned runs. They gave up the lead twice and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2025-07-19\/mookie-betts-day-off-dodgers-slump\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Mookie Betts;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Mookie Betts<\/a> lined out to center with the bases loaded to end the game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got to figure it out. We\u2019ve got to play better,\u201d Betts whispered in an empty clubhouse after going one for five, leaving him with\u00a0a .189 average in July and as many strikeouts as hits.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Across the room <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2025-07-02\/dodgers-clayton-kershaw-3000-ks-plaschke\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Clayton Kershaw;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Clayton Kershaw<\/a> cut short a scrum with reporters. I don\u2019t know how else to say it,\u201d\u00a0said Kershaw, who was visibly angry after being pulled from the game in the fifth inning.\u00a0\u201cWe didn\u2019t win a game. No excuses. We\u2019ve just got to play better.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t have much to say,\u201d\u00a0he added. \u201cI\u2019m going to get myself in trouble.\u00a0So let\u2019s just call it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>The Dodgers gave Kershaw an early lead with a three-run third inning, the big blow a two-run homer by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/story\/2025-07-18\/dodgers-shohei-ohtani-childrens-book-dog-decoy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Shohei Ohtani;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Shohei Ohtani<\/a>, his 34th\u00a0of the season. The defense gave all three runs back in the fourth, however.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s frustrating,\u201d Roberts repeated. \u201cThat&#8217;s the word everyone uses when things aren&#8217;t going well, but you also have to make your own breaks. And when things are tough, you can&#8217;t do things to sabotage yourself. (Robert Gauthier \/ Los Angeles Times)<\/p>\n<p>Esteury Ruiz\u2019s first home run for the Dodgers put them back in front in the fifth, but the Brewers (59-40) went in front to stay in the sixth, scoring three times off relievers Alex Vesia and Lou Trivino (3-1) on a double, three singles and a walk.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>The Dodgers\u2019 bullpen earned-run average of 4.39 ranks 12th\u00a0in the National League.
