They\u2019ve lost back-to-back series, and now sit a couple of games behind the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/mlb\/tampa-bay-rays\/\" title=\"Tampa Bay Rays\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"264345\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tampa Bay Rays<\/a> for first place in the American League East. The Yanks are currently taking on their cross-town rival, the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/mlb\/new-york-mets\/\" title=\"Mets\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"264347\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s still early to start thinking about MLB trade ideas, but the Yankees continue to be floated around as a team that will likely address their bullpen.<a href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/25427583-what-every-mlb-team-would-do-if-2026-trade-deadline-was-today\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Bleacher Report\u2019s Kerry Miller recently<\/a> urged New York to target bullpen help:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bullpen, however, has been a bit messier, specifically two of the relievers the Yankees traded for last summer, Camilo Doval and Jake Bird. David Bednar has been solid enough at closer, but they would greatly benefit from a \u201cset-up man who can close on occasion,\u201d like the good old days of Dellin Betances passing the baton to Andrew Miller and\/or Aroldis Chapman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It begs the question of who the Yankees could target if they do make a notable trade, and <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/mlb\/kansas-city-royals\/\" title=\"Kansas City Royals\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"264343\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kansas City Royals<\/a> reliever Matt Strahm has also surfaced as a possibility.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More MLB on Heavy: <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/mlb\/atlanta-braves\/former-atlanta-braves-top-prospect-jared-shuster-designated-by-cardinals\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Former Atlanta Braves No. 1 Prospect Designated for Assignment by Cardinals<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yankees Trade Prediction Lands Royals Reliever Matt Strahm<\/p>\n<p>In a piggyback to what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/mlb\/yankees\/onsi\/4-reliever-trade-targets-who-d-help-upgrade-the-yankees-bullpen-01kr4gmqk66c\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Miller wrote, SI.com\u2019s Devon Platan<\/a>a named Matt Strahm as a potential trade target for the Yankees:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrahm is an 11-year MLB veteran with 409 games and 531 innings under his belt. He isn\u2019t pitching as well as he did during his 2023 All-Star campaign; however, he\u2019s still been more than serviceable for the Royals this season. In 14 outings (13 2\/3 innings), Strahm has struck out 14 batters while allowing 10 hits. He\u2019s also limiting opponents to a .666 OPS\u2014the fifth straight year that he\u2019s allowed that number or lower.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The one issue with Matt Strahm is that since Platana named him as a trade candidate for the Yankees, he\u2019s since been placed on the 15-day injured list with knee inflammation.
