{"id":801424,"date":"2026-05-16T21:23:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-16T21:23:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/801424\/"},"modified":"2026-05-16T21:23:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T21:23:14","slug":"zohran-mamdani-shares-nakba-remembrance-day-post-featuring-zionist-created-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/801424\/","title":{"rendered":"Zohran Mamdani shares &#8216;Nakba Remembrance Day&#8217; post featuring Zionist-created art"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York City <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/diaspora\/antisemitism\/article-889634\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mayor Zohran Mamdani<\/a> marked Nakba Day on Friday in a social media post that included a video interview with a Palestinian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/international\/article-895126\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York<\/a> resident, referred to as \u201cInea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cToday marks Nakba Day, an annual day of remembrance to commemorate the expulsion of more than 700,000 Palestinians between 1947 and 1949 during the creation of the State of Israel and the year that followed,\u201d Mamdani\u2019s post accompanying the interview read.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">In the interview, Inea, who he referred to as a survivor of the Nakba, or \u201ccatastrophe,\u201d describes her family fleeing their home due to the \u201cZionists coming into Jerusalem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inea lamented her family\u2019s displacement and her alien status as she moved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/international\/article-892891\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">from country to country<\/a> following her family\u2019s leaving Palestine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The content in the video ignored the violence and subsequent war launched against Israel by Arab residents and neighboring Arab nations, including one-sided statements such as \u201cthe Hagana, Irgun, and Lehi militias, among others, destroyed more than 400 Palestinian villages and cities, killing thousands of Palestinians and carrying out dozens of massacres. May 15 is the annual commemoration of the Nakba. For Palestinians, their displacement and the Nakba continue to this day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The video interview was accompanied by shots showcasing the Palestinian artistry and imagery in Inea\u2019s home. Among the art featured was a \u201cVisit Palestine\u201d poster created in 1936 by Frank Krausz, who was a Holocaust survivor and a Zionist.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Among those who reacted to Mamdani\u2019s post was Israeli activist Hen Mazzig, who recounted his family\u2019s own story of displacement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cMy grandmother fled North Africa and Iraq after the Farhud [pogrom] of 1941. Six years before any war over Israel. Palestinians were expelled during a war Arab states launched against us. Over 850,000 Jews were driven from Arab lands. Almost none remain,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cMaybe the mayor of New York should stay out of it. Or speak to both. Don\u2019t weaponize one trauma while actively erasing another.
