The regional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.STOXX\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stoxx 600<\/a> index had nevertheless already pared gains to trade at the flatline by 8:10 a.m. in London.<\/p>\n<p>Autos stocks are down 0.6%, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/0QXR-GB\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stellantis<\/a> down 2.7% after announcing it\u00a0expects a net loss of 2.3 billion euros ($2.68 billion) in the first half of the year due to pre-tax net charges and the early effects of U.S. tariffs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/07\/21\/stellantis-expects-first-half-net-loss-of-2point7-billion-as-tariffs-bite.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jeep maker Stellantis expects first-half net loss of $2.7 billion as tariffs bite<\/a>BP picks Albert Manifold as new chair<\/p>\n<p>British oil major <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/BP.-GB\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BP<\/a> on Monday announced Albert Manifold as its new chair, succeeding Helge Lund.<\/p>\n<p>The London-listed company, which remains firmly in the spotlight as a prime takeover target, said Manifold will join the board on Sept. 1 and take over as chair from Oct. 1.<\/p>\n<p>Manifold previously worked as CEO of CRH, the world&#8217;s largest building materials company, for 11 years through to the end of last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sam Meredith<\/p>\n<p>Ryanair first-quarter profits soar as fares boosted by Easter timing<\/p>\n<p>Passengers board an aircraft, operated by Ryanair Holdings, on the tarmac at London Stansted Airport, in Stansted, U.K., on Nov. 6, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Ratcliffe | Bloomberg | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Low-cost airline Ryanair boosted profit after tax to 820 million euros ($954 million) from 360 million euros in its fiscal first quarter, helped by timing of the Easter holiday and a slightly better-than-expected price environment, the carrier <a href=\"https:\/\/investor.ryanair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Q1-FY26-Ryanair-Results.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported Monday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Revenue rose 20% year on year to 4.34 billion euros, as ancillary revenue \u2014 fees derived from flight add-ons such as seat selection, food and drink and additional baggage \u2014 increased 7% to 1.39 billion euros.<\/p>\n<p>Ryanair&#8217;s growth strategy has been stymied in recent years by ongoing delays in its large delivery of new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/BA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boeing<\/a> 737 Max aircraft, amid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/09\/14\/ryanair-may-get-five-fewer-planes-by-next-summer-due-to-boeing-strike-ceo-says.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">strikes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/07\/29\/ryanair-rails-against-boeing-for-aircraft-delays-from-737-max-grounding.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">safety concerns<\/a> at the U.S. manufacturer. Ryanair CEO Michael O&#8217;Leary in May <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/05\/01\/ryanair-threatens-to-cancel-boeing-order-if-tariffs-raise-prices.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">threatened to cancel<\/a> his order for the aircraft if the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/07\/18\/trumps-game-of-chicken-how-the-eu-is-pitching-to-reach-a-tariff-deal.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tariff war between the U.S. and European Union<\/a> leads to higher prices.<\/p>\n<p>The airline said Monday it expected certification of the Max-10 variant in late 2025 and was planning for its first 15 deliveries in spring 2027, with a total 300 deliveries by March 2034. O&#8217;Leary meanwhile told an analyst call Monday there was &#8220;cautious optimism&#8221; that commercial aircraft may get a tariff exemption, and that the airline had agreed a &#8220;fixed purchase price&#8221; with Boeing and so did not expect to take a hit from the duties, according to a transcript.<\/p>\n<p>It reiterated guidance for full-year traffic growth of 3% and said it was too early to provide firm profit guidance, but that it &#8220;cautiously&#8221; expected &#8220;reasonable net profit growth&#8221; as it recovers almost all of the prior fiscal year&#8217;s fare decline.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jenni Reid<\/p>\n<p>CNBC Pro: Bitcoin is expected to rally further.
