MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) \u2013 MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) \u2013 A New York City man, allegedly driving drunk, is responsible for two deaths and multiple injuries, according to police.<\/p>\n

The man, 61-year-old Elvin Suarez, is charged with driving while intoxicated, vehicular manslaughter, assault, and other charges, according to arrest records.<\/p>\n

Suarez is accused of driving drunk on Manhattan\u2019s Upper West Side on Friday evening.<\/p>\n

First responders received a 911 call around 6:00 p.m. about a motor vehicle accident and reports of multiple pedestrians being struck, police said.<\/p>\n

According to a preliminary investigation, Suarez was driving a Mercedes on Amsterdam Avenue when he collided with a parked Volkswagen, police said. He then continued driving, drove over a concrete island, and hit four pedestrians.<\/p>\n

After hitting the pedestrians, Suarez also hit a Chevrolet van, which was pushed forward, triggering a chain-reaction collision with a parked Honda, a Toyota, and a parked Nissan Altima, according to police.<\/p>\n

Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the four pedestrians, the driver of the Chevrolet, and the Mercedes-Benz operator to a local hospital. Two of the pedestrians who were struck, a 46-year-old man identified as Jason Negron and a 35-year-old man identified as Michael Saint-Hilaire, were pronounced deceased.<\/p>\n

Three other people who were injured in the crash are in stable condition and expected to survive, authorities said.<\/p>\n

An investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District\u2019s Collision Investigation Squad.<\/p>\n
