With an antisemitic flag hoist above<\/a> an NYU celebration and pro-Hamas mobs besieging<\/a> synagogues and marching<\/a> through Jewish neighborhoods screaming \u201cZionism will fail!\u201d and beating up Jews who cross their paths, what are New Yorkers of good will to do?<\/p>\n

Not just Jews: They\u2019re the target now, but the whole city needs to counter this venom.<\/p>\n

Well, the whole city except for our mayor, since Zohran Mamdani keeps justifying the haters as \u201cenforcing international law\u201d or \u201cprotesting genocide\u201d or whatever.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why it\u2019s hard to disagree with ex-Assemblyman Dov Hikind\u2019s call to boycott<\/a> the Jewish heritage event Mamdani\u2019s hosting Monday at Gracie Mansion, urging Jewish leaders \u201cto take a stand. Show pride. Have self respect.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the City Council and Legislature must step up to maximize protections against the haters who\u2019ve weaponized the First Amendment.<\/p>\n

The council needs to override Mamdani\u2019s veto<\/a> of Intro 175-B, a bill to allow \u2014 not require \u2014 the NYPD to establish protest buffer zones outside schools simply to ensure free entry and exit.<\/p>\n

The mayor and his allies claim this would stifle civil liberties<\/a>, but whose? Goons eager to surround schools and harass students and teachers?<\/p>\n

State lawmakers, meanwhile, should back Gov. Kathy Hochul\u2019s push for a law protecting all houses of worship with buffer zones that keep demonstrations back, reinforcing a city law (one Mamdani didn\u2019t veto only because he knew he\u2019d be overridden).<\/p>\n

Genuine liberals need to start drawing a line against the \u201cprogressives\u201d who justify violence \u2014 including attacks on law enforcement \u2014 in the name of protest.<\/p>\n

Instead, we have profiles in cowardice like Rep. Dan Goldman, primaried by the vile Brad Lander as he runs for re-election in Manhattan, who threw his own wife<\/a> under the bus for daring to support Israel on social media.<\/p>\n

Standing up to this madness shouldn\u2019t be left to marginal figures like Hikind: Sooner or later, Democratic big dogs like Rep. Hakeem Jefferies and (especially) Sen. Chuck Schumer need to speak out, loud and proud.<\/p>\n
