Sarver then grabbed one opened can of beer, took a big swig, and then threw it away.

Earthquakes coach Bruce Arena pleaded with referee Chris Penso that there should have been a foul on the play before Sarver’s breakaway as FC Dallas forward Logan Farrington knocked down Ronaldo Vieira as both chased after a loose ball. As Vieira remained down, Kaick fed Sarver to set up the winning goal.

Arena also questioned why VAR was used to review Benji Kikanovic’s yellow card in the 85th minute, but not on the game’s deciding play, as the Quakes’ winless skid reached four games (0-2-2).

“Obviously, you can question whether there’s a foul in that play that led to the third goal and other things,” Arena said. “I think the use of VAR has been very poor, so I would have liked to have seen it on a couple of plays tonight. But the fact that we spent all that time on Benji’s yellow card, and then they don’t go to VAR on a couple of other plays, it’s confusing to everyone, really.”

It looked like the Earthquakes were headed to a draw on Saturday after defender Reid Roberts scored his first career MLS goal in the 81st minute to tie the game 2-2.

The Earthquakes trailed 2-1 after Petar Musa scored his 12th goal of the season in the 49th minute. But San Jose responded with near constant pressure and had nine corner kicks and 13 shot attempts before Roberts’ goal. San Jose native Beau Leroux also scored for the Earthquakes in the 19th minute.

Slow starts to both halves cost the Earthquakes against a young FC Dallas team. After allowing a goal in the opening 54 seconds of the first half following a turnover, the Quakes allowed a go-ahead goal to Musa to start the second.

On the goal, Musa stepped in front of Roberts, took a pass into the penalty area from midfielder Herman Johansson, chipped it ahead to himself, and beat goalkeeper Daniel for his 12th goal of the season.

The Earthquakes were playing their fourth match since Timo Werner was injured in a U.S Open Cup Round of 16 game against Minnesota United on April 28. San Jose won that match 4-2, which was then their 11th victory in 12 games.

Since then, the Quakes have hit some speedbumps, earning draws with Toronto and Vancouver before allowing a goal in the 89th minute in a 3-2 loss to the Seattle Sounders on Wednesday, snapping a 10-game unbeaten streak.

The Earthquakes are also dealing with the loss of midfielder Niko Tsakiris, who is expected to miss the next three or four months after he underwent surgery on his right groin on Tuesday.

The two teams traded goals in the first 19 minutes, but the Quakes probably felt they should have taken a one-goal lead into halftime.

Dallas took a 1-0 lead just 54 seconds into the match. Capitalizing on an Earthquakes turnover, Dallas’ Santiago Moreno tried to send a pass through to fellow forward Musa. Kikanovic got a foot on the ball, but it went right to Patrickson Delgado, whose shot went off Kikanovic’s leg and past Daniel.

The Quakes got the goal back in the 19th minute after forward Ousseni Bouda sent the ball into the box before it was headed away by Dallas defender Osaze Urhoghide. But with Dallas goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois on the ground, Leroux one-timed the ball while it was in the air into the short side for his third goal of the season.

The Quakes had a golden opportunity to take a 1-0 lead as Ian Harkes drew a foul on Urhoghide in the penalty area. But Leroux’s shot to the bottom left corner was stopped by a diving Sirois.

[5135
5229,276,1596,21601,221,62,358,3187,67,586,132,5230,68,2969
0":"post-802249","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-dallas","8":"tag-america","9":"tag-california","10":"tag-dallas","11":"tag-san-jose-earthquakes","12":"tag-soccer","13":"tag-sports","14":"tag-texas","15":"tag-tx","16":"tag-united-states","17":"tag-united-states-of-america","18":"tag-unitedstates","19":"tag-unitedstatesofamerica","20":"tag-us","21":"tag-usa
["GET
