The American won her maiden slam at the 2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/tag\/us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a> before capturing the 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/tag\/french-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">French Open<\/a> title.<\/p>\n<p>Venus Williams, now 45 years of age, will suit up for her first WTA Tour-level match in 16 months after accepting a wild card invitation to compete at the Washington Open. I was just telling her thank you for everything that she\u2019s done for the sport and she\u2019s been an inspiration for many people and I was just really telling her thank you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI met her before but I didn\u2019t really have the guts to say anything so I was like \u2018now or never.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Gauff was then told by a reporter that Serena Williams had commented, saying the young American reminded her of Venus.<\/p>\n<p>Gauff responded: Oh yes, I definitely get compared to Venus a lot. The victory was particularly impressive because Gauff came back from the brink of defeat at 5-2 down in the second set.<\/p>\n<p>However, Gauff ran into Simona Halep in the fourth round.
