{"id":80227,"date":"2025-07-21T09:05:13","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T09:05:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/80227\/"},"modified":"2025-07-21T09:05:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T09:05:13","slug":"ryan-gerard-seals-1st-pga-tour-win-at-barracuda-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/80227\/","title":{"rendered":"Ryan Gerard seals 1st PGA Tour win at Barracuda Championship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jul 20, 2025, 09:47 PM ET<\/p>\n<p>TRUCKEE, Calif. &#8212; <a data-player-guid=\"4d8882ad-fa92-37e4-99fe-c11db1718abb\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/golf\/player\/_\/id\/507602\/ryan-gerard\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Gerard<\/a> had two seven-point, birdie-eagle bursts and overcame five bogeys to win the Barracuda Championship on Sunday for his first PGA Tour victory.<\/p>\n<p>In breezy conditions at Tahoe Mountain Club in the only PGA Tour event that uses the modified Stableford scoring system, Gerard followed a two-point birdie with a five-point eagle on Nos. 2-3 and 10-11.<\/p>\n<p>The 25-year-old former North Carolina player had a 13-point round to finish with 47 points for a three-point victory over 2021 winner <a data-player-guid=\"a5c79019-66ee-f87a-c6c1-80fdacae348c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/golf\/player\/_\/id\/9364\/erik-van-rooyen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Erik van Rooyen<\/a> of South Africa. Gerard fell short of van Rooyen&#8217;s tournament record of 50 points.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Been playing a lot of really good golf,&#8221; Gerard said. &#8220;Felt like I haven&#8217;t been quite getting the scores out of the shots that I&#8217;ve hit. It&#8217;s been a long time being a long grind, and it&#8217;s pretty cool to end up on top.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fifth in the event two years ago, Gerard won in his 47th PGA Tour start to become the 999th winner in tour history.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s just like a culmination of a lifetime of work,&#8221; Gerard said. &#8220;I can&#8217;t tell you how many hours I&#8217;ve spent hitting golf balls dreaming of winning on the PGA Tour. With the victory, Gerard received a spot in the PGA Championship next year but not the Masters.<\/p>\n<p>Van Rooyen had an 11-point day. He made a 20-foot eagle putt on the par-5 15th and a 30-footer for birdie on the par-4 18th.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mixed emotions,&#8221; van Rooyen said. &#8220;Really happy with how I fought. Left some shots out there the last few days unfortunately with the putter, but can&#8217;t expect to make everything, right? So maybe I&#8217;m a bit too hard on myself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a data-player-guid=\"9a7c832b-992a-7a62-d397-0dc860047bd8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/golf\/player\/_\/id\/11402\/todd-clements\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Todd Clements<\/a> of England was third with 39 points after a 16-point round. <a data-player-guid=\"d63ff6fd-c90e-6172-2538-9cfcff61ee29\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/golf\/player\/_\/id\/6011\/beau-hossler\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Beau Hossler<\/a> scored 17 points Sunday to tie for fourth at 37 with <a data-player-guid=\"da2eba92-c33a-13a1-c103-f73f22a51bb1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/golf\/player\/_\/id\/11383\/max-mcgreevy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Max McGreevy<\/a> (16) and <a data-player-guid=\"a2b0e40b-79aa-cdbf-cd75-ad923632fcc3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/golf\/player\/_\/id\/7072\/jacques-kruyswijk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jacques Kruyswijk<\/a> (10).<\/p>\n<p>Tied for the third-round lead with <a data-player-guid=\"07ca6c7d-76d2-fc09-184c-c1f33ec73143\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/golf\/player\/_\/id\/11385\/rico-hoey\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rico Hoey<\/a>, Gerard made a 20-foot eagle putt on the par-5 third and holed a 35-footer from the fringe on the par-5 11th. On the 11th, he hit his approach into the rough, but was allowed to take relief and move his ball to the fringe because of a sprinkler head.<\/p>\n<p>Gerard followed both seven-point runs with consecutive bogeys &#8212; with a point deducted for bogey &#8212; and missed a 3-footer on 16 for a three-putt bogey.<\/p>\n<p>The winner made a 5-foot birdie putt on 14 to get back the points he lost with the bogeys on the previous two holes. He also quickly canceled out the consecutive front-nine bogeys with a birdie on No. 7.<\/p>\n<p>Gerard played for the sixth straight week, a string that began with the U.S. Open and took him to Scotland last week.
