JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 The Weather Authority is tracking high temperatures across the area, with \u201cfeels like\u201d temps expected to reach between 105 and 110 degrees for some. <\/p>\n

Even in the early morning, it\u2019s already 80 degrees in Jacksonville and St. Augustine, and 81 in Brunswick. Macclenny is starting the day at 78 degrees, with temperatures heading well into the 90s as the day heats up.<\/p>\n

Conditions are brutal and dangerous, and The Weather Authority is encouraging everyone to limit time outdoors and take extra precautions. <\/p>\n

With humidity high and only a light breeze, staying cool and hydrated is especially important during the hottest part of the day. <\/p>\n

The UV index is reported as high, and even though the rip current risk at the local beaches is moderate to low, it\u2019s a smart move to take all the usual sun and water safety measures.<\/p>\n

Rain and thunderstorm chances increasing<\/p>\n

The News4JAX Exact Track 4D radar shows that while this morning starts dry, the forecast calls for isolated pop-up showers and thunderstorms rolling in late morning through the afternoon.<\/p>\n

The chance of seeing rain today ranges from 5% to 20%, gradually increasing as the week goes on, especially by Wednesday and Thursday. <\/p>\n

The Weather Authority notes these afternoon storms may bring a short break from the highest temperatures, though the overall heat remains a major concern.<\/p>\n

While the timing of individual storms isn\u2019t guaranteed, it\u2019s likely that the Jacksonville area will experience the most activity around lunchtime and into the afternoon. <\/p>\n

Viewers can expect that rain and thunderstorm chances will be sticking around, at least into the start of the weekend.<\/p>\n

Watching the tropics<\/p>\n

Tropical activity is mostly quiet in the Atlantic and remains well south of northeast Florida.<\/p>\n

That said, a system in the Atlantic is being watched, with a 20% chance of development over the next seven days. <\/p>\n

While it\u2019s not expected to directly impact the Jacksonville area at this time, the system may pass east of the region.<\/p>\n

The forecast team will be keeping close tabs and providing updates if anything changes.<\/p>\n

The dangerous heat is sticking around for the next several days, with temperatures expected to moderate just slightly by midweek before rebounding.<\/p>\n
