As a result, Gov. Hochul and the MTA are strongly encouraging anyone who can work from home and avoid non-essential travel during the strike to do so.<\/p>\n<p>For those who do plan to commute, here\u2019s how to make the trip.<\/p>\n<p>The MTA is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mta.info\/article\/lirr-strike-may-2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">providing free shuttle bus service<\/a> to connect six spots on Long Island to the subway system in Queens during peak travel hours \u2014 to Queens from 4:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., and to Long Island from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Map of LIRR strike shuttle bus service. (MTA)<\/p>\n<p>Three of those spots will offer peak-hour service and reverse-peak direction service:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Bay Shore (LIRR) to Howard Beach-JFK Airport A\u200b train<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Huntington (LIRR) to Jamaica-179 St F train at Hillside Ave. and 179 St.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ronkonkoma (LIRR) to Jamaica-179 St F train at Hillside Ave. and 179 St.<\/p>\n<p>The other three will offer peak service only:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hempstead Lake State Park, near Lakeview (LIRR), to Howard Beach-JFK Airport A train\u200b<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hicksville (LIRR) to Howard Beach-JFK Airport A\u200b train<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Mineola (LIRR) to Howard Beach-JFK Airport A\u200b train<\/p>\n<p>Commuters from Nassau County can also use the NICE Bus to connect to spots in Queens during peak and reverse-peak hours. Those spots include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 the 179 St E and F train stop \u2014 n6, n6x, n22, n22x, n24, n26<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 the Far Rockaway-Mott Ave. A trian stop \u2014 n31, n31x\/m, n32, n33<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 the Flushing-Main St. 7 train stop \u2014 n20g, n20x<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jamaica Bus Terminal, a short walk from the 169 St F train \u2014 n1, n6, n6x, n22, n22x, n24, n26<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jamaica Ctr-Parsons\/Archer E J and Z train \u2014 n4, n4x<\/p>\n<p>Commuters can get more info at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicebus.com\/Passenger-Information\/LIRR\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NICE Bus website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The MTA is suggesting five subway stations as passenger drop-off points, the Far Rockaway-Mott Ave. A\u200b train stop, the Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike E and F\u200b train stop, the Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd. A\u200b train stop, the Sheepshead Bay B and Q\u200b stop, and the Woodhaven Blvd. J train stop.<\/p>\n<p>Shuttle buses \u200bwill take commuters from Bay Shore, Hempstead Lake State Park, Hicksville and Mineola to the Howard Beach-JFK Airport A\u200b station, as well as\u00a0 from Huntington and Ronkonkoma to the Jamaica Center-Parsons\/Archer E J and Z\u200b train station.<\/p>\n<p>Baseball fans from Long Island may have a rough go of getting to Citi Field for the Mets-Yankees Subway Series game Sunday.
