Two people have died and two others are hospitalized following a car crash involving two vehicles in Philadelphia overnight, police said. <\/p>\n
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, at around 11:36 p.m., Saturday, May 16, 2026, officers responded to a “catastrophic two-vehicle collision” at the intersection of K Street and East Hunting Park Avenue.<\/p>\n
When first responders got to the scene, police said they found two vehicles, a green 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a gold 2004 Lexus ES330, involved in a crash. <\/p>\n
Police said the driver of the Lexus, a 60-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the passenger, a 55-year-old man, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.<\/p>\n
The people in the Jeep, the driver, a 23-year-old woman, and the passenger, a 25-year-old man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. <\/p>\n
Police reported that preliminary details indicate that the Jeep was traveling westbound on East Hunting Park Avenue at a high rate of speed. As the Jeep approached the intersection, the driver disregarded a steady red traffic signal and struck the Lexus, which was traveling southbound on K Street with a steady green light. <\/p>\n
The impact caused “catastrophic” damage to the Lexus and severe front-end damage to the Jeep, leaving both vehicles disabled, according to police. <\/p>\n
