Jan L\u00e4ssker isn\u2019t interested in conducting a traditional choir.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Every time the Fort Worth music teacher guides a performance, he\u2019s focused on creating a whimsical environment. That means having students break dance, jump or play instruments while they sing.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The goal, he said, is to create a safe space so students can find their voices at the Fort Worth After School Music Academy<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI make them very independent,\u201d L\u00e4ssker said. \u201cSometimes during concerts, I get them to loop lyrics because the audience is happy with it. I learned that whatever energy I have, that\u2019s the same the kids are gonna have.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n L\u00e4ssker served as the academy\u2019s artistic director since the organization\u2019s launch in late 2023. He also works as a choir music teacher at Mary Louise Phillips Elementary School in Ridglea North.<\/p>\n
