{"id":803770,"date":"2026-05-17T22:28:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T22:28:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/803770\/"},"modified":"2026-05-17T22:28:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T22:28:17","slug":"4-hurt-as-tanker-truck-carrying-8800-gallons-of-fuel-ignites-on-i-287-in-new-jersey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/803770\/","title":{"rendered":"4 hurt as tanker truck carrying 8,800 gallons of fuel ignites on I-287 in New Jersey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A tanker truck carrying over 8,000 gallons of fuel erupted into flames Sunday on I-287 in New Jersey, injuring four people and shutting down the highway, officials said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Large orange flames burst from the truck and plumes of smoke filled the air just after 9 a.m. in Edison, halting both northbound and southbound traffic near Exits 1 and 2, as well as nearby Route 27.<\/p>\n<p>More than 150 firefighters were on the scene, with mutual aid from multiple departments, before I-287 south was able to reopen. The northbound lanes remained shut down and vehicles were being diverted to Route 1.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/dhaliwal-6p-pkg-edison-wcbshu7m-hi-res-still.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"dhaliwal-6p-pkg-edison-wcbshu7m-hi-res-still.jpg \" height=\"349\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  The tanker truck fire completely shut down I-287 in Edison, NJ.<\/p>\n<p>                CBS News New York<\/p>\n<p>The mayors of Edison and Metuchen said the tanker was carrying approximately 8,800 gallons of fuel and at least four people were injured.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Officials said crews were working to tow the tanker truck away from the scene after any remaining fuel was drained from it.
