2024 Event Hosting:<\/b> #3<\/a> <\/p>\n
Los Angeles continues to stake its claim as one of the world\u2019s premier mega-event destinations, as it was awarded more top-tier events than any city in the study. L.A. also trailed only New York and Las Vegas in the number of recently hosted industry events, such as SBJ\u2019s CAA World Congress of Sports in April, the Green Sports Alliance Summit and the Sports Lawyers Association annual conference.<\/p>\n
A reason for that success comes from the $9 billion that has been spent building or renovating the city\u2019s sports venues over the past decade \u2014 the most of any city \u2014 and that doesn\u2019t include Olympic-specific projects or the Los Angeles International Airport\u2019s $30 billion makeover. <\/p>\n
In June, L.A. residents will vote on a proposal to add an extra 2% city hotel tax to the current 14% rate to help fund the 2028 Olympics. L.A. County\u2019s high cost of living is a bigger deterrent for job seekers than it was pre-pandemic, as the $900,000 average home price is 2.5 times higher than the national average. Population fell from about 10 million residents in 2020 to roughly 9.7 million today, the biggest net loss of any U.S. city. During that stretch, AECOM moved to Dallas, and after more than 15 years, ESPN moved its production of the L.A.-based edition of \u201cSportsCenter\u201d and soccer programming to its headquarters in Bristol, Conn. <\/p>\n

The Los Angeles Clippers\u2019 $2 billion Intuit Dome (2024): 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend; and Olympics\u2019 5×5 men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball. The Anthem Hotel, with 179 rooms, opened in February; Marriott\u2019s 300-room Kali Hotel and Rooftop will open this fall.<\/p>\n
Key Numbers: <\/b>The area\u2019s 10 major league teams, plus four NCAA Division I athletics programs, combined to draw 43.4 million in attendance and generated a survey-high nearly $500 million in social media value in 2025.<\/p>\n
