Jill Eikenberry, Jimmy Smits and Michael Tucker from the classic 1980s series \u201cL.A. Law\u201d<\/a> will all take part in a reading of Tucker\u2019s comedy \u201cA Tailor Near Me\u201d<\/a> on June 8 at 7 p.m. at Westport Country Playhouse<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Eikenberry, a New Haven native and a graduate of the Yale School of Drama, and Tucker have been married since 1973. They first met while acting in a play together and have done live theater projects together often throughout their long careers.<\/p>\n

Eikenberry played Ann Kelsey and Tucker played Stuart Markowitz for all eight seasons of \u201cL.A. Law.\u201d Smits, who played Victor Sifuentes for five seasons of the series, has done a lot of theater as well, including New York productions of \u201cTwelfth Night\u201d and \u201cMuch Ado About Nothing\u201d with the New York Shakespeare Festival and Broadway productions of \u201cAnna in the Tropics\u201d and \u201cGod of Carnage.\u201d His film and TV work includes some \u201cStar Wars\u201d projects and \u201cSons of Anarchy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMichael Tucker has written a beautiful, funny, deeply observant play about friendship, reinvention, and the surprising ways we shape ourselves to fit the lives we think we\u2019re supposed to lead,\u201d said Westport Country Playhouse\u2019s artistic director and longtime curator of the theater\u2019s Script in Hand series Mark Shanahan. \u201cBeneath the wit and warmth is an incredibly rich character study of two men finding connection where neither expected it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The play concerns the friendship between Sam (played by Tucker) and his tailor (Smits). Eikenberry will recite the stage directions. The reading will be directed by James Glossman of Johns Hopkins University.<\/p>\n
