{"id":806365,"date":"2026-05-19T01:32:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T01:32:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/806365\/"},"modified":"2026-05-19T01:32:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T01:32:15","slug":"defendant-accused-in-deadly-100-mph-crash-wanted-in-harris-county-after-cutting-ankle-monitor-days-before-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/806365\/","title":{"rendered":"Defendant accused in deadly 100 MPH crash wanted in Harris County after cutting ankle monitor days before trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2013 For the second time in the month of May, a Harris County murder defendant allegedly cut off his court-ordered GPS ankle monitor just before his trial was scheduled to begin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">A murder trial for Walter Pozos, 32, was scheduled to start last Wednesday, but according to records, but two days before his GPS monitor started generating a tamper alert early Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">It would have been Pozos\u2019 second murder trial this year, after a mistrial was declared in February because of a hung jury.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Pozos had been out of jail on a total $35,000 bond since Oct. 2023, the Harris County District Attorney\u2019s Office confirmed. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In July of 2023, Pozos allegedly sped away from Harris County sheriff\u2019s deputies at speeds over 100 miles per hour, which led to a crash, and one of his friends in the car passed away. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Another passenger was injured, according to the Harris County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">We know this brings up questions about public safety, so KPRC 2 News has reached out to Harris County Pretrial Services, the agency tasked with monitoring defendants on bond to learn more about how this could have happened and what can be done to stop this from happening. It\u2019s not clear if he is still in Harris County.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Pozos now faces additional felonies in Harris County, including bail jumping and tampering with an electronic monitor, records show.
