{"id":806731,"date":"2026-05-19T05:16:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T05:16:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/806731\/"},"modified":"2026-05-19T05:16:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T05:16:15","slug":"san-diego-mosque-shooters-identified-as-cain-clark-and-caleb-velasquez","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/806731\/","title":{"rendered":"San Diego mosque shooters identified as Cain Clark and Caleb Velasquez"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The alleged gunmen in a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/18\/us-news\/cops-rush-to-active-shooter-at-islamic-center-of-san-diego\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">shooting rampage<\/a> that left three people dead outside a San Diego mosque have been identified as 17-year-old Cain Clark and 18-year-old Caleb Velasquez, according to a law enforcement source.<\/p>\n<p>At least one of the suspects took a weapon from their parents\u2019 home and left a suicide note that talked about racial pride, a law enforcement source told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Clark attended Madison High School and was a standout wrestler, according to the school\u2019s social media page. His grandfather, David Clark, 78, said: \u201dWe\u2019re very sorry for what happened. We know as much as you do. It\u2019s a shock.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Cain Clark, 17, has been identified as one of the alleged gunman in Monday\u2019s shooting at a San Diego mosque. Facebook\/madison.warhawk.wrestling<\/p>\n<p>Clark and Velasquez were found dead inside a BMW from self-inflicted gunshot wounds only a few blocks from the Islamic Center of San Diego.<\/p>\n<p>Anti-Islamic writings were found in the suspects\u2019 vehicle and \u201chate speech\u201d was written on the firearms used in the shooting, according to the source.<\/p>\n<p>A shotgun and gas can with an \u201cSS\u201d sticker on the side were located at the scene where the gunmen\u2019s bodies were discovered. <\/p>\n<p>The \u201cSS\u201d sticker appears to represent the Schutzstaffel, the paramilitary organization led by Heinrich Himmler under Adolf Hitler\u2019s Nazi regime in Germany. <\/p>\n<p>Police revealed that around 9:42 a.m., they had received a call of a runaway juvenile from a concerned mother.<\/p>\n<p>After speaking with the mom, police began to elevate the threat level the individual posed to the community.<\/p>\n<p>The body of a suspect lies dead, and a gas container with an \u201dSS\u201d sticker sits next to a white BMW. Anadolu via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The mom allegedly believed her son was suicidal and shared that several of her weapons were missing, as was her vehicle, according to police. <\/p>\n<p>The mom also said her son was with a companion and that they were dressed in camo.<\/p>\n<p>The police would not clarify whether or not the missing person was involved in the shooting, though most of the details line up with what The Post was told.<\/p>\n<p>The three dead at the mosque were <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/18\/us-news\/san-diego-islamic-center-shooting-leaves-security-guard-dead\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">security guard and father of eight Amin Abdullah<\/a>, who police say prevented more deaths, as well as a grocery store owner, and another man. <\/p>\n<p>Clark attending Madison High School and was on the school\u2019s wrestling team. All the kids, all the staff, and the teachers are safe and out of the Islamic Center,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/18\/us-news\/san-diego-islamic-center-leader-speaks-out-after-shooting-leaves-two-gunman-dead\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">center Imam Taha Hassane said in a video<\/a> obtained by The Post and circulated among California\u2019s Muslim community.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities said officers swarmed <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/18\/us-news\/san-diego-mosque-where-mass-shooting-left-3-dead-has-controversial-history-including-ties-to-9-11-hijackers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Islamic Center<\/a> within four minutes of the first emergency calls, launching what police described as a fast-moving and \u201cdynamic\u201d response.<\/p>\n<p>Anti-Islamic writings were found in the suspect\u2019s vehicle and \u201chate speech\u201d was written on the firearms used in the shooting, according to a law enforcement source.
