{"id":808679,"date":"2026-05-20T00:46:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T00:46:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/808679\/"},"modified":"2026-05-20T00:46:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T00:46:17","slug":"armed-robber-made-off-with-2k-from-chase-bank-in-phoenix-later-caught","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/808679\/","title":{"rendered":"Armed robber made off with $2K from Chase Bank in Phoenix, later caught"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\"><b>PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/2026\/05\/19\/robber-fires-shot-inside-phoenix-bank-before-i-17-takedown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/2026\/05\/19\/robber-fires-shot-inside-phoenix-bank-before-i-17-takedown\/\">An armed robber who fired a shot<\/a> inside a Phoenix Chase Bank made off with a little over $2,000 before being caught shortly afterward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Federal officials said Calvin Eklund entered a bank at <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/1hepVA1c6Uy9m4oN7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/1hepVA1c6Uy9m4oN7\">27th Street and Camelback Road<\/a> around 12:30 p.m. Monday with a small dog. According to court documents, when entering the bank, Eklund yelled something to the effect of, \u201cThis is a f***ing robbery!\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He fired his rifle once into the ceiling, officials said. No one was hurt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Eklund then allegedly demanded money from a teller. Approximately $2,118 was put in the suspect\u2019s bag, officials said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He left the bank in a white Ford van, which was later spotted by a Phoenix Police Department helicopter, federal officials said in a probable cause statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Phoenix police followed the suspect until an officer in a cruiser used a \u201cgrappler\u201d to stop the van about 15 minutes north of Anthem on Interstate 17.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Bank surveillance video showed Eklund in gray or beige shorts, cowboy boots, a dark long-sleeve shirt, and a red baseball cap with \u201cTRUMP\u201d written across the front, which were the same clothing items he was wearing when he was pulled over, officials said. Investigators found two rifles and a handgun in the van.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Eklund allegedly admitted to the robbery after being taken into custody.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He told police he had several mental health conditions that he was trying to get help for.
