County Board of Education today voted to deny the <a href=\"https:\/\/calcreative.org\/about\/us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">California Creative Learning Academy Middle School<\/a>\u2019s appeal asking for a renewal of its charter.<\/p>\n<p>The County Board voted 6-2 to follow\u00a0 the County Superintendent of School&#8217;s recommendation\u00a0 and deny the appeal.<\/p>\n<p>        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theeastsiderla.com\/sponsored_posts\/2026-eastsider-summer-camp-guide\/article_313380d0-0c6e-4f09-b39d-c89eb53bbb15.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><br \/>\n            <img  data- class=\"img-circle img-responsive lazyload tnt-prop-img\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" alt=\"\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In February, the LAUSD Board of Education denied renewal of the charter for Cal Creative, as the school is called.<\/p>\n<p>School leaders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theeastsiderla.com\/education\/parents-defend-glassell-park-charter-school-after-lausd-denial\/article_a27d879f-04dd-4e52-9e31-07d5cb012b9a.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">turned to the County\u2019s Board of Education to appeal<\/a>\u00a0the LAUSD decision.<\/p>\n<p>The L.A. County Office of Education staff said Cal Creative is an underperforming school with chronic absenteeism and declining enrollment. In addition, it is in a financially precarious position.<\/p>\n<p>Linda Lee, the school\u2019s executive director and principal, said all the issues are being addressed and urged the County board to review data from the current academic year that shows the academic progress students have made in the fall and spring. She asked for a two-year charter renewal.<\/p>\n<p>Parents and school employees spoke in favor of Cal Creative prior to the County Board\u2019s vote.<\/p>\n<p>Cal Creative Middle School\u2019s charter expires June 30.<\/p>\n<p>Join the more than 5,000 other Eastsiders who receive our daily newsletter.
