HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2013 Driving in Houston can feel like an obstacle course.<\/p>\n

From cracked pavement to deep potholes capable of damaging tires, rims and suspensions, rough roads are a common frustration for drivers across the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, they\u2019re awful,\u201d Houston resident Arighno Das said. \u201cThey\u2019re huge. They\u2019re everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

Das, who moved to Houston from Chicago about a year ago, said some roads in Houston are worse than what he experienced in the Midwest.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve come to get used to it,\u201d said Michael Crawford. <\/p>\n

Houston Public Works says repairs happen fast<\/b><\/p>\n

But Houston Public Works Director Randy Macchi says the city is fixing reported potholes faster than many residents realize.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe resolve 99% of resident-reported pothole problems within the next business day,\u201d Macchi said in a podcast hosted by the Houston Mayor\u2019s office. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Macchi called Houston\u2019s pothole program \u201cthe best in the country,\u201d saying public works leaders from other major cities regularly ask how Houston repairs potholes so quickly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we talk about what we\u2019re doing in Houston, 99 and a half percent almost by the next business day, they look at me and say, \u2018How do you do that?\u2019\u201d Macchi said.<\/p>\n

According to Macchi, residents reporting potholes through Houston\u2019s 311 system helps crews respond quickly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout a doubt, where potholes are concerned, 311 is the best place to go,\u201d Macchi said. \u201cWe have an expedited service, folks that are monitoring it continually.\u201d<\/p>\n
