{"id":812158,"date":"2026-05-21T12:12:19","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T12:12:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/812158\/"},"modified":"2026-05-21T12:12:19","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T12:12:19","slug":"victorian-psycho-trailer-maika-monroes-governess-is-bloodthirsty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/812158\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Victorian Psycho&#8217; Trailer: Maika Monroe&#8217;s Governess Is Bloodthirsty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/maika-monroe\/\" id=\"auto-tag_maika-monroe_1\" data-tag=\"maika-monroe\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maika Monroe<\/a> is eerily bloodthirsty in a newly released teaser trailer for her latest horror, Victorian Psycho.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe film \u2014 from the producers of Longlegs, the feature that solidified Monroe\u2019s status as a Scream Queen \u2014\u00a0gets its world premiere on Thursday in Cannes\u2019 Un Certain Regard, after The Hollywood Reporter unveiled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/maika-monroe-victorian-psycho-film-cannes-exclusive-1236594511\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an exclusive first look<\/a> as the fest got underway earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tZachary Wigon\u2019s period movie also stars Thomasin McKenzie, Jason Isaacs, Amy De Bhrun, Ruth Wilson, Jacobi Jupe and Evie Templeton, and will release in the fall. It adapts Virginia Feito\u2019s 2025 novel of the same name.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe teaser shows Monroe playing an eccentric young governess in 1858, who arrives at the remote gothic manor, Ensor House. As she assimilates, staff begin to inexplicably disappear, and the owners wonder if something is amiss about (or possessing) the young woman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn the first-look interview, Monroe unpacked her serial killer governess, Winifred, with THR\u2018s David Canfield: \u201cIt terrified me. I knew that it would be the hardest role that I have ever done \u2014 and so incredibly different from anything I\u2019ve ever done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tShe continued: \u201cThere\u2019s always a little part of me in roles that I do, something that I can ground it with or connect it with within my own personal life \u2014 but this role was really a departure from that. It was working from the ground up, creating this character where I couldn\u2019t rely on my own self. It really, in the most magical way, took a toll on me. I felt it every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDirector Wigon added that he found it fascinating to see an outsider who \u201cdesperately wants to be an insider, and it\u2019s simply impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a very, very deep paradox.
