{"id":81329,"date":"2025-07-21T18:57:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T18:57:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/81329\/"},"modified":"2025-07-21T18:57:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T18:57:12","slug":"grant-expands-free-swim-access-at-city-heights-pool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/81329\/","title":{"rendered":"Grant expands free swim access at City Heights pool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/timesofsandiego.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_0186-scaled.jpg?ssl=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"585\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_0186.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-332721\"  \/><\/a>City Heights Swim Center (Photo courtesy of city of San Diego) <\/p>\n<p>San Diegans will soon have more opportunities to swim for free and take part in water-based fitness programs at the City Heights Swim Center, thanks to a $335,200 grant from Price Philanthropies Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Approved last week by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiego.gov\/citycouncil\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego City Council, <\/a>the funding will help expand hours and services at the public pool, located on Landis Street, as part of the City Heights Recreation Center. The grant will allow the pool to open seven days a week\u2014up from the current five\u2014and provide free admission for public swimming during the summer season.<\/p>\n<p>The donation also covers lifeguard staffing, water fitness classes, and youth-focused aquatic camps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving access to water, learning to swim, and preventing drowning are vital services provided by the Parks and Recreation Department\u2019s Aquatics team,\u201d said Andy Field, director of Parks and Recreation. \u201cThis partnership with Price Philanthropies is making it possible for even more young San Diegans to be able to take advantage of these life-saving programs while enjoying the pool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over the next year, the funding is expected to support roughly 1,000 participants in water fitness classes, 3,000 adults in lap and recreational swim, and more than 7,000 children using the pool for swimming and recreation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSignificant time and resources were spent rebuilding the City Heights Pool, and we want to maximize its potential community benefit,\u201d said Jennette Lawrence Shay, COO for Price Philanthropies. \u201cNow more than ever, it is important that City Heights residents, and youth in particular, have access to vital resources like pools, parks, and recreation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The donation follows all applicable city laws and will mainly be used to cover staff costs tied to expanded services.<\/p>\n<p>For details on pool locations, swim schedules, and classes, visit the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department\u2019s pools webpage.
