| Afp | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Oil prices resumed their rally Friday after declining for three straight sessions as investors weighed mixed messaging on Iran peace deal negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>While statements from the U.S. had signaled the peace deal was imminent, Iranian leadership&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/video\/2026\/05\/21\/oil-prices-jump-after-irans-supreme-leader-says-uranium-must-remain-in-the-country.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported stance<\/a> of keeping enriched uranium within their country has raised worries of an extended conflict, keeping oil supplies disrupted for longer. <\/p>\n<p>July futures for international benchmark, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@LCO.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brent\u00a0crude<\/a>,\u00a0gained 1.9% to $104.52 a barrel in early Asia trading, while U.S.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@CL.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Texas Intermediate futures<\/a>\u00a0for June advanced 1.5% at $97.81 per barrel.<\/p>\n<p>Iran&#8217;s Supreme Leader Ayatollah <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/supreme-leader-says-enriched-uranium-must-stay-iran-iranian-sources-say-2026-05-21\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mojtaba Khamenei issued a directive<\/a> that near-weapons-grade uranium in the country should not be sent abroad, Reuters reported, citing Iranian sources. <\/p>\n<p>This comes after U.S. President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0said that Washington was in the &#8220;final stages&#8221; of negotiations with Iran,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/05\/19\/stock-market-today-live-updates.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to a pool report<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Worries over oil supplies continue to linger with the International Energy Agency warning that as travel demand grows during the summer season, oil markets could enter a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/05\/21\/oil-markets-red-zone-iea-summer-travel.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">red zone<\/a>&#8221; soon as global stocks deplete. <\/p>\n<p>The most important solution to the energy shock caused by the Iran war would be the Strait of Hormuz&#8217;s full and unconditional reopening, IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said, adding that developing Asian and African countries will feel the &#8220;biggest pain of this crisis.&#8221;
