{"id":81403,"date":"2025-07-21T19:34:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T19:34:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/81403\/"},"modified":"2025-07-21T19:34:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T19:34:09","slug":"iowa-medical-society-hopes-to-address-health-care-worker-shortage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/81403\/","title":{"rendered":"Iowa Medical Society hopes to address health care worker shortage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Iowa Medical Society has released a report identifying three strategies to help address Iowa\u2019s health care workforce shortage, based on input from its May 14 Healthcare Workforce Summit.<\/p>\n<p>The report highlights priorities in early career exposure, workplace improvement, and structural redesign:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support early exposure to health care careers, particularly for middle and high school students, through hands-on opportunities and coordinated recruitment efforts among schools, colleges, employers, and workforce boards.<\/li>\n<li>Improve work environments by reducing administrative burdens, supporting employee autonomy, and addressing burnout. Recommendations include evaluating current burdens and promoting staff well-being.<\/li>\n<li>Redesign work structures to systematically tackle burnout and improve sustainability. Strategies include piloting new care models and involving clinical leaders, wellness teams, and policy advisors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThese recommendations are an important start toward making real progress to help solve the healthcare [sic] labor shortage in Iowa,\u201d said Steven W. Churchill, MNA, CEO of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iowamedical.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Iowa Medical Society<\/a> in a news release. \u201cThe action steps are tangible, doable, and demand urgent attention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report will guide the Iowa Rural Healthcare Workforce Taskforce, a group of health care leaders, educators, and workforce professionals that meets multiple times a year to develop recruitment, education, and retention strategies.
