A Jacksonville family is speaking out after three men were arrested<\/a> in connection with the shooting death of 49-year-old Corey Denmark, a father and grandfather who was killed in December.<\/p>\n

Denmark was shot in a parking lot on Edgewood Avenue, in a shooting that also left another man wounded. Five months later, investigators say they have made arrests in the case, something Denmark\u2019s family said they had faith would happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have prayed for this moment, and we are finally here,\u201d one family member said.<\/p>\n

Another says the development filled her \u201ctears of joy\u201d but added it remains \u201ca bittersweet moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office, 26-year-old Da-Vonne Mitchell is accused of fatally shooting Denmark. Authorities say 29-year-old Tyquan Thompson and 26-year-old Anthony Brooks Jr. are also facing charges in connection to the case. All three men are now in custody.<\/p>\n

An unredacted arrest report obtained by\u00a0First Coast News\u00a0reveals chilling details about what led up to the shooting.<\/p>\n

Police say the violence began hours earlier when two men attempted to rob one of Denmark\u2019s co-workers outside a furniture store. Investigators say the victim was attacked, thrown to the ground and struck during the incident.<\/p>\n

According to the report, Denmark intervened and called the police.<\/p>\n

Later that day, detectives say the suspects went looking for that same co-worker. When they could not find him, investigators say they instead targeted Denmark.<\/p>\n

The report states that Mitchell told investigators that if they could not find the co-worker, they would \u201cget his homeboy\u201d instead.<\/p>\n

Brooks later told detectives he saw Mitchell approach Denmark and then heard \u201cfour to five shots\u201d before Mitchell ran from the scene, according to the report.<\/p>\n

Investigators also wrote that Mitchell later bragged he would not be caught for \u201cpopping that guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Family members described Denmark as a peaceful man who was deeply loved.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey took a brother, a father, a cousin, a friend, an excellent co-worker\u2026 this was a major hit,\u201d one relative said.<\/p>\n

Loved by many in the community, Denmark\u2019s family said he had a personality that brought people together.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was Mr. Duval,\u201d a family member said.<\/p>\n

Others said he was always there when needed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you needed anything done, anything, he was there for his family,\u201d another relative said.<\/p>\n

The family also credited the community for keeping attention on the case.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou guys kept his name out there, and the community stepped up tremendously,\u201d a family member said.<\/p>\n

They say they are determined to carry on his legacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey will forever know who their father and grandfather was and still is to us, the community, to everyone, and this is not the end, this is just the beginning,\u201d the family added.<\/p>\n

As the case moves forward, the family says they plans to be present throughout the court process.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey can look forward to seeing these faces on every event, every time they step in that courtroom,\u201d one family member said.<\/p>\n

All three men remain in custody.
