However people choose to spend the day, Memorial Day ultimately serves as a time to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"682\" data-end=\"938\">One of the most visible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glo.texas.gov\/about-glo\/press-releases\/commissioner-buckingham-and-vlb-honors-fallen-heroes-illuminated\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tributes<\/a> this weekend will take place at the Veterans Land Board\u2019s four Texas State Veterans Cemeteries, where headstones of servicemembers killed or missing in action will be illuminated from Friday, May 22, through Monday, May 25.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"940\" data-end=\"1169\">Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham announced the cemeteries in <strong>Killeen<\/strong>, <strong>Abilene<\/strong>, <strong>Mission<\/strong>, and <strong>Corpus Christi<\/strong> will remain open 24 hours a day during the holiday weekend for nighttime viewing.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1171\" data-end=\"1696\">\u201cThis tribute reflects the deep respect the Texas General Land Office (GLO) and the VLB holds for the courageous men and women who gave everything for our nation,\u201d Buckingham said in a news release. \u201cMemorial Day weekend carries profound meaning for the families and communities whose loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1171\" data-end=\"1696\">Closer to home, North Texans can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redcross.org\/local\/texas\/north-texas\/about-us\/news-and-events\/events\/flags-for-fallen-veterans-dfw-national-cemetery-support.html?srsltid=AfmBOop6169RHdsGNd3pSwhIAXAV_dnW0NOZZOeRedQneEsyWJ16pdpQ\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">participate<\/a> in the annual Memorial Flag Placement at the <strong>Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery<\/strong> on Sunday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The American Red Cross-Service sponsors the event for the Armed Forces North Texas Region.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1698\" data-end=\"1887\">In <strong>McKinney<\/strong>, the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinneytexas.org\/m\/newsflash\/Home\/Detail\/6871\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Memorial Day Celebration<\/a> honoring Collin County veterans and military personnel will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at Corporal RD Foster Veterans Memorial Park.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1889\" data-end=\"2155\">The McKinney Armed Services Board presents the event in conjunction with the City of McKinney Parks &amp; Recreation Department. Organizers said the long-running ceremony recognizes the service and sacrifices of military personnel and veterans from Collin County.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2157\" data-end=\"2347\">City officials noted the event has traditionally been held on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, but was moved this year to Memorial Day itself. The ceremony will take place rain or shine.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2349\" data-end=\"2527\">In <strong>Arlington<\/strong>, the <strong>National Medal of Honor Museum<\/strong> will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audacy.com\/krld\/news\/local\/memorial-day-weekend-at-the-national-medal-of-honor-museum\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">host<\/a> a four-day Memorial Day observance from Friday, May 22, through Monday, May 25, centered on remembrance and reflection.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2529\" data-end=\"2864\">Among the featured activities is the \u201cField of Flags,\u201d an outdoor display featuring more than 600 flags representing Medal of Honor recipients killed in action. Visitors can also dedicate a flag in honor of or in remembrance of a loved one, with the display overlooking Mark Holtz Lake near a quiet amphitheater designed for reflection.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2866\" data-end=\"3062\">Inside the <a href=\"https:\/\/mohmuseum.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">museum<\/a>, guests can visit the Fallen Comrades Table tribute and explore immersive exhibit galleries featuring multimedia experiences and artifacts connected to Medal of Honor recipients.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3064\" data-end=\"3263\">Additional offerings include architecture tours highlighting the symbolism behind the museum\u2019s design and the \u201cDustoff\u201d virtual reality experience simulating a Vietnam-era medical evacuation mission.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3265\" data-end=\"3514\">The museum\u2019s 1861 Caf\u00e9 will feature special Memorial Day menu offerings throughout the weekend. The museum will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with free admission for active-duty military members and promotional admission offers for veterans.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4074\" data-end=\"4289\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><strong>Carry the Load<\/strong>, a nonprofit organization dedicated to <a href=\"https:\/\/carrytheload.org\/who-we-are\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">connecting<\/a> Americans to the sacrifices made by the military, veterans, and first responders, will hold several events over the weekend throughout North Texas, including in <strong>Allen<\/strong>, <strong>Waxahachie<\/strong>, <strong>Fort Worth<\/strong>, <strong>Rockwall<\/strong>, <strong>Flower Mound<\/strong>, and <strong>Dallas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4074\" data-end=\"4289\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The Dallas event will be held on Sunday and Monday at Reverchon Park and will <a href=\"https:\/\/participate.carrytheload.org\/site\/DocServer\/Dallas_Flyer.pdf?_gl=1*ackqr3*_gcl_au*MTMyNDc2MDYyNi4xNzc5Mzc0Mzk2*_ga*MTQxMTQ2OTYxMy4xNzc5Mzc0Mzk2*_ga_219MD83Y7N*czE3NzkzNzQzOTUkbzEkZzEkdDE3NzkzNzQ0NDgkajckbDAkaDA.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">include<\/a> a memorial march, a silent midnight walk, a storyboard procession, a kids\u2019 zone, food trucks, a nonprofit partner village, and opening and closing ceremonies. Details on the times and locations for each Carry the Load event in the metroplex can be found on the organization\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/carrytheload.org\/memorial-may\/#memorial-may-events\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3516\" data-end=\"3658\">The holiday weekend will conclude Monday evening in Dallas with the <strong>Dallas Symphony Orchestra\u2019<\/strong>s annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallassymphony.org\/productions\/parks-concert-flag-pole-hill-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Memorial Day concert<\/a> at Flag Pole Hill.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3660\" data-end=\"3815\">The free outdoor concert begins at 8:15 p.m., with fireworks scheduled for 9:15 p.m. Pre-show entertainment by Rob Holbert begins at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3817\" data-end=\"4072\">The program, led by conductor Shira Samuels-Shragg and featuring baritone Bradley Ritschel, includes patriotic selections such as \u201cThe Star-Spangled Banner,\u201d \u201cAmerica the Beautiful,\u201d \u201cTaps,\u201d \u201cThe Stars &amp; Stripes Forever March,\u201d and an Armed Forces Salute.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4074\" data-end=\"4289\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The concert will also feature works by Aaron Copland, John Williams, and Florence Price. In the event of rain, the performance will be moved to the Morton H.
