{"id":81503,"date":"2025-07-21T20:27:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T20:27:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/81503\/"},"modified":"2025-07-21T20:27:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T20:27:08","slug":"marines-to-leave-los-angeles-pentagon-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/81503\/","title":{"rendered":"Marines to leave Los Angeles, Pentagon says"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>More than a month after President Trump made the fiercely contentious decision to send hundreds of U.S. Marines to Los Angeles, those troops will begin withdrawing from the city, Pentagon officials said Monday. <\/p>\n<p>The decision comes a week after <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2025-07-15\/trump-admin-to-send-home-half-of-the-4-000-national-guard-troops-still-deployed-in-l-a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Pentagon announced that<\/a> half of the almost 4,000 National Guard soldiers deployed to the Los Angeles area would be released from duty. The Marines and National Guard were sent to the city in early June amid widespread federal immigration raids and fiery protests, with the Trump administration vowing to crack down on \u201crioters, looters and thugs,\u201d and local officials ferociously denouncing the unprecedented deployment of military troops on such a mission. <\/p>\n<p>In recent days, the troops have <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2025-07-17\/military-troops-los-angeles-what-they-doing\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">been largely fighting tedium,<\/a> without much to do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith stability returning to Los Angeles, the Secretary has directed the redeployment of the 700 Marines whose presence sent a clear message: lawlessness will not be tolerated. Their rapid response, unwavering discipline, and unmistakable presence were instrumental in restoring order and upholding the rule of law. We\u2019re deeply grateful for their service, and for the strength and professionalism they brought to this mission,\u201d Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said in a statement Monday. <\/p>\n<p>News of the Marines\u2019 withdrawal, which was <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/07\/21\/us\/marines-los-angeles-withdraw-trump.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">first reported<\/a> by the New York Times, broke minutes after Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass finished a public appearance with veterans\u2019 groups, where she decried the \u201cinappropriate\u201d presence of military forces on L.A. streets. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is another win for Los Angeles.
