{"id":81533,"date":"2025-07-21T20:42:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T20:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/81533\/"},"modified":"2025-07-21T20:42:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T20:42:10","slug":"someone-is-going-to-get-punished","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/81533\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Someone is going to get punished\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">SAN ANTONIO \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/texas-longhorns\/2025\/06\/12\/ncaa-house-settlement-faq-how-will-the-historic-ruling-impact-texas-college-athletics\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/texas-longhorns\/2025\/06\/12\/ncaa-house-settlement-faq-how-will-the-historic-ruling-impact-texas-college-athletics\/\">The revenue-sharing era<\/a> in college sports is less than a month old, and football coaches already have mixed feelings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/college-sports\/2025\/06\/06\/judge-approves-28b-house-settlement-opening-path-for-colleges-to-pay-athletes-millions\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/college-sports\/2025\/06\/06\/judge-approves-28b-house-settlement-opening-path-for-colleges-to-pay-athletes-millions\/\">$2.8 billion antitrust settlement<\/a> that paved the way for schools to pay their athletes beginning July 1 resolved three separate federal antitrust lawsuits alleging the NCAA was limiting the earning power of college athletes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Under the House vs. NCAA settlement, schools can pay athletes up to a set cap, starting at $20.5 million per school in the 2025-26 academic year, in addition to offering scholarships, NIL deals and other benefits athletes already receive. Donor-led collectives funneled millions into unofficial salaries \u2014 mostly for top football and basketball players \u2014 without the schools directly paying athletes. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/smu-mustangs\/2025\/07\/01\/how-texas-schools-are-handling-the-house-settlement-preparing-to-pay-players-directly\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/sports\/smu-mustangs\/2025\/07\/01\/how-texas-schools-are-handling-the-house-settlement-preparing-to-pay-players-directly\/\">The settlement<\/a> created an organization, the College Sports Commission, to enforce the cap and regulate athlete compensation. Any third-party deal worth more than $600 must be sent to a clearinghouse called NIL Go, run by the consulting firm Deloitte, which will seek to regulate the market and prevent schools from circumventing the cap through external deals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">It\u2019s unclear how the commission plans to penalize rule breakers. Tech coach Joey McGuire said he believes schools should forfeit scholarships if they exceed the cap.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cI have faith that people are always gonna try and look for loopholes,\u201d the former Cedar Hill coach said. \u201cThe more we can close those and play on a level field when it comes to revenue sharing, the better it\u2019ll be for the sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Related:<a class=\"dmnc_features-article-body-embeds-related-story-module__82BFj\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/high-school-sports\/football\/2025\/07\/20\/thsca-is-pushing-for-legislation-to-protect-recruits-from-being-manipulated-by-agents\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">THSCA is pushing for legislation to protect recruits from being manipulated by agents<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Relying on well-funded NIL collectives allowed schools to spend as much as $40 million on their rosters, according to reports. Texas, Texas Tech and Texas A&amp;M were among the top 10 spenders in college football, according to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/college\/oregon\/football\/surprising-list-biggest-nil-spenders-college-football-texas-longhorns-texas-tech-nike-oregon-ducks-ohio-state-buckeyes#:~:text=Which%20college%20football%20teams%20are%20the%20biggest,Image%2C%20Likeness%20(NIL)%20deals%20with%20their%20athletes.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">On3 poll<\/a>, with the Longhorns topping the list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Under the settlement, schools in power conferences and others that opt in to revenue sharing could be forced into difficult decisions about how to disburse their $20.5 million. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cIf you maximize the cap based on the percentages, you\u2019re somewhere in that 13 to 16 [million dollar] range for football,\u201d Lashlee said. \u201cYou might not be the highest, but you\u2019re in the range.
