{"id":815899,"date":"2026-05-23T02:44:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-23T02:44:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/815899\/"},"modified":"2026-05-23T02:44:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-23T02:44:20","slug":"garden-grove-gas-leak-live-evacuation-maps-closures-and-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/815899\/","title":{"rendered":"Garden Grove gas leak: Live evacuation maps, closures and updates"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If a damaged chemical tank at GKN Aerospace in Garden Grove explodes, it could emit a toxic vapor that has a \u201cfruity and heavy smell,\u201d Dr. Regina Chinsio-Kwong, Orange County\u2019s health officer, said Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSmelling it doesn\u2019t mean you reach a level that causes symptoms, but we don\u2019t want you to smell that, so we need to know if you\u2019re smelling it,\u201d Chinsio-Kwong said in <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/OCFireAuthority\/status\/2057970486177652826?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a video<\/a> posted on social media.<\/p>\n<p>There are three large tanks containing a <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2026-05-22\/why-garden-grove-chemical-explosion-could-be-so-catastrophic\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">highly toxic chemical called methyl methacrylate<\/a>, or MMA, used to make plastic, that are in crisis around the 12000 block of Western Avenue in Garden Grove.<\/p>\n<p>The most compromised tank has about 7,000 gallons of the chemical left in it, authorities have said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this situation, our biggest concern is when this chemical reacts, and the temperatures rise, it can cause a vapor,\u201d Chinsio-Kwong said. \u201cMy biggest concern is that if that vapor goes into the air and people inhale that, it causes significant damage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said inhaling the vapor can lead to irritation of the eyes, nose and throat, headaches and nausea.
