\n\tThe anger over CBS\u2019 decision to shutter The Late Show with Stephen Colbert<\/a> continues: On Monday, protesters gathered outside the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City to shout \u201cColbert Stays! Trump Must Go!\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tSigns like \u201cI Support Colbert\u201d were also waved by a group that reportedly calls itself Refuse Fascism. The protest comes after CBS revealed last week that The Late Show With Stephen Colbert\u00a0will end its run in May. <\/p>\n

\n\tCBS execs said it was \u201cpurely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night\u201d and \u201cis not related in any way to the show\u2019s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.\u201d But that hasn\u2019t stopped speculation that politics, in fact, did play a role in whether to keep Colbert employed at CBS. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe are trying to wake up the people,\u201d one protester told CBS News.<\/a> \u201cToo many people are accepting this and saying, \u2018Colbert we\u2019ll miss you.\u2019 We cannot accept this. This is illegitimate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAnother protest is planned for Wednesday by a group called the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. The plan is to deliver a petition to CBS headquarters; so far, more than 130,000 people have signed it in hopes<\/a> of saving Colbert\u2019s job.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cCBS\u2019s decision to cancel Stephen Colbert\u2019s show looks blatantly political,\u201d the petition reads. \u201cSenator Elizabeth Warren points out that CBS\u2019s decision comes \u2018just three days after Colbert called out CBS parent company Paramount for its $16M settlement with Trump \u2013 a deal that looks like bribery.\u201d\u2018The NY Times reports the Late Show \u2018has been a CBS flagship for more than three decades.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTo save Stephen Colbert\u2019s voice in our national debate, CBS needs to see public pushback right away,\u201d the petition continues.<\/p>\n

\n\tCBS\u2019 decision to shutter its late night show coincides with\u00a0Colbert\u2019s contract coming to an end<\/a>. It also came days after Colbert called Paramount Global\u2019s $16M settlement of Donald Trump\u2019s lawsuit\u00a0a \u201cbig fat bribe.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n
