The long-awaited \u201cHappy Gilmore 2\u201d<\/a> celebrated its premiere in New York City on Monday, July 21 at Jazz at Lincoln Center, along with a massive array of talent including stars Adam Sandler<\/a>, Julie Bowen<\/a>, Benny Safdie<\/a>, Bad Bunny<\/a>, and Kid Cudi, to name a few. Sandler reprises his role as the titular unsuccessful ice hockey player turned unlikely golf pro.<\/p>\n

Sandler\u2019s \u201cGrown Ups\u201d co-star Kevin James revealed that a third installment may be on the horizon. \u201cI think you can keep hope alive,\u201d James told The Direct<\/a>. \u201cI can say that. I would keep a lot of hope alive. And I think it\u2019s happening\u2014something\u2019s happening. I can say that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would be fun, that would be fun,\u201d Sandler told IndieWire on the \u201cHappy Gilmore 2\u201d carpet. \u201cWe\u2019re always thinking of some shit and trying to get us all together. I\u2019ve heard chatter.\u201d As for if he is down for \u201cGrown Ups 3,\u201d Sandler says, \u201cWhen it happens, I\u2019ve got to let you know. I just don\u2019t know what the fuck we\u2019re doing right now, but we\u2019re trying to figure out stuff.\u201d <\/p>\n

We also had a chance to catch up with Safdie, who\u2019s next project, \u201cThe Smashing Machine,\u201d<\/a> releases in theaters on October 3 from A24. The biopic follows\u00a0UFC legend Mark Kerr<\/a>, led by Dwayne Johnson<\/a>. \u201cIt was one of the most incredible things to witness,\u201d Safdie told IndieWire of Johnson\u2019s unrecognizable transformation.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was just so committed and amazing,\u201d he continued. \u201cTo see him walking amongst, like, 400 people, and everybody being like, \u2018When\u2019s Dwayne going to get here?\u2019 He\u2019s just walking amongst everybody. Everything about him changed. It was really, really cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou really understand the fears, the love, the sadness, the happiness,\u201d Safdie previously said of just how great Johnson is<\/a>. \u201cIf somebody\u2019s open to doing that and talking about that stuff, then they\u2019re going to be able to give a great performance. Because of how physically strong he is, I don\u2019t know if a lot of people give him that opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHappy Gilmore 2\u201d is directed by Kyle Newacheck (\u201cWorkaholics,\u201d \u201cWhat We Do in the Shadows\u201d), who also previously helmed Sandler\u2019s 2019\u00a0film<\/a>\u00a0\u201cMurder Mystery.\u201d Sandler cowrote \u201cHappy Gilmore 2\u201d with Tim Herlihy, who also cowrote the original.<\/p>\n
