In a recent viral video posted by content creator Lia Higgins, the \u201crecovering lawyer turned mom, writer, creator\u201d pointed out how it\u2019s \u201cno surprise\u201d that her kids are privileged. \u201cThey live in a nice apartment, they go to a great school and great activities \u2014 they have a really lovely and beautiful life.\u201d<\/p>\n
In recognizing how lucky her kids are to be able to travel to \u201cbeautiful places,\u201d the mom of two points out in her May 13 video<\/a> that when \u201clittle kids who have never worked a day in their life watch older hardworking adults walk past them on a plane to go to less nice seats, that creates a psychological issue, in my opinion, that I don\u2019t want my kids having.\u201d<\/p>\n She said, \u201cIt signals to their tiny brains that they are better than these older, hardworking people.\u201d<\/p>\n In other words, sitting with the peasant flyers in coach<\/a> builds character.<\/p>\n The Post reached out to Higgins for comment.<\/p>\n Jokes aside, thousands in the comment section praised Higgins, yet disagreed, saying that there are plenty of other ways for children to learn to be grateful for the privileged life they might live. <\/p>\n \u201cI love this take and respect it. I\u2019ve done both with my kids and they were super appreciative when we flew first and were very very respectful so I don\u2019t mind doing that again in the future (we don\u2019t fly much though),\u201d one comment read. \u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s inherently wrong to let your kids have those experiences sometimes but that\u2019s just my opinion\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI took my children to Bali when they were 3 & 5. I went for spiritual\/healing reasons. I had never flown business class internationally or hardly ever at that point. As a single mom there was no way we\u2019re gonna make it half way around the world 3 airport if I couldn\u2019t put them to bed properly. Wasn\u2019t happening. So, we went business all the way,\u201d another pointed out.<\/p>\n Another chimed in saying, \u201cI totally understand your reasoning, however this will be around your children\u2019s life and probably already is and what makes them not brats is how you teach them to respond with respect to others.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIf they have a nanny or housekeeper, they probably noticed that she doesn\u2019t have as nice a car or takes the subway and doesn\u2019t wear as nice of clothes or doesn\u2019t have her manicure done. If their school has security guards, lunch ladies, cleaning crew\u2026 What is important is how you teach them to respond to these inequities and it is very clear that by not flying private or first class your family are already thinking about these things,\u201d the comment continued.<\/p>\n Higgins saw these comments and responded in a follow-up video<\/a>, agreeing, reiterating that she, of course, has to do other things as a parent to teach her kiddos to be good humans. <\/p>\n \u201cFlying coach with my kids is one of the many ways I encourage my children to be uncomfortable to allow them to sit with this discomfort in order to build confidence and resilience,\u201d she stated. <\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t![\"First-class](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/128644582.jpg\")
