Tenants of 1390 Boston Road, like John Brown, say they’ve reached their breaking point.<\/p>\n
They say the conditions in their home are bad and fear for their health.<\/p>\n
With almost 300 complaints reported by the New York City Housing Preservation & Development within the past two years, Brown says they have resorted to reaching out to their building landlord Blue Hill Realty – only to be “ignored.” <\/p>\n
“We asked them to move us to a place that we could go until they fix the conditions in the apartment,” Brown says. “They said were not doing that.”<\/p>\n
Brown says there is a rat infestation – one even bit his 1-year-old daughter – and mounting mold appearances,<\/p>\n
Brown says their most urgent concern has been the high levels of lead found in their home.<\/p>\n
“[The] children [have] tested positive for lead in their system,” Brown says. “Now all of them have to have early intervention.” <\/p>\n
Brown says that he has voiced his concerns for his family’s safety for the past five years, but feels almost as if he has become a bother.<\/p>\n
“Its a ‘Oh, you made another complaint, violations and things like that?'” Brown says of Bule Hill Realty’s response to his complaints. “And then they’ll hang up.”<\/p>\n
