{"id":821449,"date":"2026-05-25T17:05:24","date_gmt":"2026-05-25T17:05:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/821449\/"},"modified":"2026-05-25T17:05:24","modified_gmt":"2026-05-25T17:05:24","slug":"best-texas-restaurants-chefs-crowned-at-2026-tastemakers-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/821449\/","title":{"rendered":"Best Texas restaurants, chefs crowned at 2026 Tastemakers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A revered ice cream chain from Ohio has scooped into Hurst: <a href=\"https:\/\/handelsicecream.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Handel&#8217;s Homemade Ice Cream<\/strong><\/a>, known for its many flavors, opened a location at 6100 Precinct Line Rd., Ste. 100, in Hurst on Thursday, May 21.<\/p>\n<p>Handel\u2019s was founded in 1945 in Youngstown, Ohio by Alice Handel, who started by making ice cream with fruit from her backyard; the company is said to still use her recipes.<\/p>\n<p>Ice cream in the Northeast is serious business, and Handel&#8217;s has a library of more than 100 flavors of ice creams, sorbets, and sherbets, with a minimum of 45 offered at each location. That includes your basic chocolate and vanilla but also unique options such as:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ee-ul\">\n<li>Cherry Magnolia: black cherry ice cream with whole black cherries, brownie pieces and chocolate chips<\/li>\n<li>Monkey Business: banana cake batter ice cream with bananas, caramel ripple, and brownie pieces<\/li>\n<li>Blue Monster: blue vanilla ice cream with Oreo and Chips Ahoy! cookies<\/li>\n<li>Spouse Like A House: malted vanilla ice cream with Reese\u2019s Peanut Butter ripple and chocolate-covered pretzels<\/li>\n<li>Meri\u2019s Joy: coconut ice cream with toasted almonds and chocolate chips<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/handelsicecream.com\/menu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">menu<\/a> includes cones, dishes, pints &amp; quarts, sundaes, shakes, &#8220;Hurricanes&#8221; (vanilla ice cream blended with mix-ins), and Handel Pops (ice cream dipped in chocolate and served on a stick.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"shortcode-media shortcode-media-rebelmouse-image\">        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"c03fa\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"4fb97de8524372793299e66ce5ce9ad6\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/handel-s-ice-cream.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Handel's Ice Cream\"\/>        Three overloaded cones at Handel&#8217;s Ice Cream.        Photo courtesy of Handel&#8217;s                <\/p>\n<p>The new shop is located near the Hurst Justice Center &#8211; maybe a good way to drown legal sorrows or deal with stress?<\/p>\n<p>The Hurst location is owned and operated by father-and-son team George and Cameron Summers, who are bringing a personal (and geographical) connection to the brand. The family lived for more than 20 years in Columbiana County, Ohio \u2014 not far from Handel&#8217;s original hometown of Youngstown \u2014 where the ice cream chain was a longtime family favorite.<\/p>\n<p>The owners say in a release that their affection for Handel&#8217;s even extended to Cameron&#8217;s wedding, where the ice cream was served to guests.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It has always been my dream to own something authentic with unbeatable quality,&#8221; says Cameron Summers in the release. &#8220;After seeing the reaction to Handel&#8217;s at my own wedding, we knew we had to bring this experience to Hurst. We aren&#8217;t just opening a shop; we&#8217;re building a destination for families and friends to come together and make memories.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cameron brings six years of franchise experience with Wingstop, where he focused on customer service and team training. George, a veteran and longtime physical therapy business owner, brings nearly three decades of experience operating a local business and serving the community.<\/p>\n<p>According to the release, the 1,850-square-foot scoop shop features a rotating selection of 48 flavors, ranging from classic favorites to innovative seasonal creations, as well as pickup and delivery through DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Postmates, and catering services.<\/p>\n<p>The shop is open daily from 11 am-10 pm.<\/p>\n<p>Handel&#8217;s has over 175 locations across 20 states; Hurst is the fourtth Tarrant County location, after shops in <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworth.culturemap.com\/news\/restaurants-bars\/handels-homemade-ice-cream-arlington\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Arlington<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworth.culturemap.com\/news\/restaurants-bars\/handels-ice-cream-burleson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Burleson<\/a>, and Southlake.The Fort Worth area has become a hot destination for out-of-town ice cream chains lately: Portland-based <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworth.culturemap.com\/news\/restaurants-bars\/salt-straw-magnolia-avenue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Salt &amp; Straw<\/a> will open in the city&#8217;s Near Southside on Friday, May 22. It follows the recent opening of Pennsylvania-based <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworth.culturemap.com\/news\/restaurants-bars\/brusters-ice-cream-alliance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bruster&#8217;s Real Ice Cream<\/a> and Massachusetts-based <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworth.culturemap.com\/news\/restaurants-bars\/scoop-and-scootery-fort-worth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Scoop N Scootery<\/a>, both in the Alliance area.
