The Age Without Limits survey found that films are also four times more likely to have a talking animal as the lead character than a female actor over the age of 60. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLooking at the 100 highest-grossing films in 2023, 2024 and 2025, six featured a man named Chris in the lead, while just five starred a woman over 60.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOscar-winning actor <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/emma-thompson\/\" id=\"auto-tag_emma-thompson\" data-tag=\"emma-thompson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emma Thompson<\/a> supports the Age Without Limits campaign, which is calling on the film industry to have better representation of older women in film. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWomen are half the population and we get older. So where are the stories about us? The older we get, the more interesting we are. I want to see more films center aging women, we are compelling, relatable, and overdue for center stage. Older women don\u2019t need permission to exist on screen. They already exist in the world, cinema just needs to catch up,\u201d Thompson said in a statement to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.agewithoutlimits.org\/article\/men-named-chris-or-talking-animals-more-likely-be-star-film-older-women\" target=\"_blank\">Age Without Limits<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe study named five films released in the U.K. that featured a female star over 60 in the past five years: Jennifer Saunders of \u201cAbsolutely Fabulous\u201d in \u201cAllelujuah,\u201d Nia Vardalos in \u201cMy Big Fat Greek Wedding 3,\u201d Diane Keaton in \u201cBook Club: The Next Chapter,\u201d Demi Moore in \u201cThe Substance\u201d and <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/jamie-lee-curtis\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jamie-lee-curtis\" data-tag=\"jamie-lee-curtis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jamie Lee Curtis<\/a> in \u201cFreakier Friday.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe Age Without Limits campaign also polled the British public for their opinion on including more older women in films. When women were asked, 39% said there are not enough films\u00a0being made\u00a0that\u00a0feature\u00a0female actors over 60 as a lead character.\u00a0Meanwhile 16% of people said they would be more likely to see a film featuring a female over 60 \u2014 twice the proportion that said it would make them less likely to see the film. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe research was done by a team at the University of West London School of Film, Media and Design, led by Prof Dennis A.
