BRIDESBURG, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — This Memorial Day, fallen soldiers were honored throughout the streets of Bridesburg in a parade.<\/p>\n
“This all started back after World War II. 1946, and it’s been continuous since… For me, I never served, but I’ve spent most of my life helping veterans out…A lot of our veterans are passing away and it’s…a lot of non-veterans that actually do the parade with me, but they’re here every year because they believe in the same thing I do,” said Parade Adjutant, Gary Roman.<\/p>\n
The Commander of Bridesburg American Legion Post 821, Ray Lewandowski, was the parade’s Grand Marshal.<\/p>\n
“I grew up in the neighborhood, so I’ve been at the parade ever since I was a little kid. And I would sit out, watch the parade and say ‘boy, I wish I could march one day,’ and here I am,” said Lewandowski.<\/p>\n
“I was in the United States Marine Corps, a Vietnam vet. I was proud I could serve my country. We got to pass that on to generations for our younger people to know what the parade is all about. It’s supposed to be a day of memory to remember our fallen,” he continued.<\/p>\n
