The Hollywood Museum will host a centennial celebration honoring Marilyn Monroe Tuesday evening featuring a re-dedication of the museum\u2019s \u201cBlondes Only Room\u201d exhibit and appearances by actors, authors and entertainment personalities connected to the Hollywood icon.<\/p>\n
The event, \u201cA Centennial Celebration: From Norma Jean to Marilyn Monroe,\u201d is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Hollywood Museum in the historic Max Factor Building on Highland Avenue.<\/p>\n
The exhibit will open to the public Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are thrilled to celebrate this milestone of one of Hollywood\u2019s iconic film stars \u2014 actually, one of the world\u2019s most iconic film stars \u2014 to ever grace the screen, Marilyn Monroe,\u201d museum founder Donelle Dadigan said in a statement.<\/p>\n
According to organizers, the exhibit includes Monroe\u2019s clothing, jewelry, makeup chair, personal items, prescription bottles and the honeymoon dress worn during her marriage to baseball legend Joe DiMaggio.<\/p>\n
Scheduled speakers include actress Morgan Fairchild, Academy Award winner George Chakiris and actress Ruta Lee, while guests are expected to include Blac Chyna, Dee Wallace and Michele Lee.<\/p>\n
The museum also announced a special exhibit of photographs by late celebrity photographer George Barris, including previously unseen images from Monroe\u2019s final photo sessions in 1962, weeks before her death.<\/p>\n
Born in Los Angeles in 1926, Monroe \u2014 born Norma Jeane Mortenson \u2014 spent much of her childhood in foster homes and an orphanage while her mother struggled with mental illness.<\/p>\n
After beginning her career as a model, she signed a contract with Twentieth Century-Fox and adopted the name Marilyn Monroe, eventually becoming one of Hollywood\u2019s biggest stars through films including \u201cGentlemen Prefer Blondes,\u201d \u201cHow to Marry a Millionaire\u201d and \u201cThere\u2019s No Business Like Show Business.\u201d<\/p>\n
