Month over month, March\u2019s national price increase dipped to 0.7% from an average 0.8% gain from 2015 to 2019, while Chicago saw a 2.2% increase compared to an average of 0.9%.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1335339 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/spcotalitymarch26.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"872\" height=\"566\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuyers are rejecting current price tags, but sellers refuse to offer steep discounts. The result is in a standoff,\u201d\u00a0Cotality\u00a0Principal Economist Thom Malone said. \u201cMonthly price growth in March was the slowest since 2019. Sales were also low,\u00a0indicating\u00a0that sellers are still waiting for the rest of the economy to catch up with the housing market. Still, the modest appreciation points away from any immediate price drops and signals that buyers might be the ones who end up giving the most ground.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, the\u00a0United States market\u00a0remains\u00a0in a \u201cholding pattern.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrices reflect homeowners who are clinging to\u00a0the equity,\u201d\u00a0Cotality\u00a0said.\u00a0\u201cBut house hunters cannot stretch their budgets any further.
