{"id":827356,"date":"2026-05-28T07:56:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T07:56:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/827356\/"},"modified":"2026-05-28T07:56:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T07:56:20","slug":"complaints-permanent-bans-up-for-financial-planners-in-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/827356\/","title":{"rendered":"Complaints, permanent bans up for financial planners in 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Complaints and permanent bans were both up for financial planners last year, based on the FP Canada Standards Council\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fpcanada.ca\/docs\/professionalsitelibraries\/annual-reports\/fp-canada-standards-council-2025-report.pdf?_gl=1*11h1l5h*_gcl_aw*R0NMLjE3NzQzNzI2MzIuQ2owS0NRanc3SWpPQmhEeUFSSXNBRnpyV1F4bHNCbUxsNWZwRUR1Qnp2MFIwWVpERUZZOWFFRXFndXNJTnJ6MjNLUnRJanhtMDdNNGJKSWFBcDNrRUFMd193Y0I.*_gcl_au*NzIxNzA1MTk1LjE3NzMxNTcyNzU.*_ga*NjI1MDA5MTQuMTc3MzE1NzI3Ng..*_ga_7SD97CBZV2*czE3Nzk5MTM4NzkkbzE2OSRnMCR0MTc3OTkxMzg3OSRqNjAkbDAkaDA.*_ga_4LCW6LG8V7*czE3Nzk5MTM4Nzkkbzg5JGcwJHQxNzc5OTEzODc5JGo2MCRsMCRoMA..\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">annual report<\/a> released on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The council is the division of FP Canada that oversees certification requirements and sets and enforces financial planning standards.<\/p>\n<p>The council received 128 complaints in 2025 \u2014 up from 87 in 2024, representing a year-over-year increase of 47%. <\/p>\n<p>In 2025, 53 of the complaints came from the public \u2014 more than double the 22 such complaints received the previous year \u2014 and 69 complaints initiated by the council.<\/p>\n<p>Top complaint allegations were diligence (20.3%), client service failure, multiple allegations (19.5%), integrity (18.8%) and suitability (12.5%).<\/p>\n<p>Of the complaints, 27 (about 21%) were referred to a conduct review panel, and eight were referred to a disciplinary hearing panel.<\/p>\n<p>The most common outcome of conduct review panels (about 59% of outcomes) was the issuance of guidance and advice covering a wide range of issues \u2014 from creating social media posts impugning the conduct of another CFP professional, to possessing altered or pre-signed forms, to making false attestations to FP Canada regarding regulatory investigations.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, 15 disciplinary hearings were held (not necessarily concluded), compared to 12 the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Hearing panel outcomes in 2025 included permanent bans or revocations \u2014 about 42% of outcomes, up from about 38% the previous year.
