{"id":829118,"date":"2026-05-29T02:36:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T02:36:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/829118\/"},"modified":"2026-05-29T02:36:18","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T02:36:18","slug":"50-years-of-radio-reading-celebrated-in-youngstown-youngstown-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/829118\/","title":{"rendered":"50 years of radio reading celebrated in Youngstown | Youngstown News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAQAAAADCAQAAAAe\/WZNAAAAEElEQVR42mM8U88ABowYDABAxQPltt5zqAAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==\" alt=\"Radio Reading 50th.png\" class=\"img-responsive lazyload full blur\" width=\"427\" height=\"240\" data- data-\/><\/p>\n<p>             <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/6a18dccd25328.image.png\" alt=\"\" aria-hidden=\"true\" loading=\"lazy\" height=\"112\" width=\"200\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A reading service providing essential reading service to individuals who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise unable to read printed materials celebrated 50 years of its work on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The Youngstown Radio Reading Service, sponsored by Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries, held an anniversary event in Liberty, inviting the public to help celebrate five decades of radio reading.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo get certain types of programs that are in print are very difficult to get otherwise,\u201d Youngstown Radio Reading Service Manager Mike Muder said. \u201cIf the Radio Reading Service did not exist, there\u2019d be certain programs that would be very difficult for someone who\u2019s blind or print impaired to access.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The service helps make information accessible to individuals with visual, physical, or mental impairments across Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuch a special day today. May 28th, 1976, is when the Youngstown Radio Reading Service first began broadcasting. So, we are celebrating 50 years to the day,\u201d Muder said.<\/p>\n<p>                        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAQAAAADCAQAAAAe\/WZNAAAAEElEQVR42mM8U88ABowYDABAxQPltt5zqAAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==\" alt=\"Radio Reading 50th 2.png\" class=\"img-responsive lazyload full blur\" width=\"427\" height=\"240\" data- data-\/><\/p>\n<p>             <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/6a18dd934f474.image.png\" alt=\"\" aria-hidden=\"true\" loading=\"lazy\" height=\"112\" width=\"200\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Muder took time to recognize Richard Smiley, a 50-year reading volunteer for the service, as well as each volunteer who provides their voice for listeners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have about 60 or 70 volunteers that read various newspapers, magazines, books.
