{"id":829241,"date":"2026-05-29T03:54:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T03:54:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/829241\/"},"modified":"2026-05-29T03:54:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T03:54:14","slug":"legendary-art-critic-accuses-nyc-socialite-libbie-mugrabi-of-not-returning-nearly-100-of-his-cartoons-worth-1k-each-suit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/829241\/","title":{"rendered":"Legendary art critic accuses NYC socialite Libbie Mugrabi of not returning nearly 100 of his cartoons worth $1K each: suit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>High society art critic Anthony Haden-Guest is throwing the sketchbook \u2014 and a massive lawsuit \u2014 at jet-setting fashionista Libbie Mugrabi, accusing her of holding nearly 100 of his cartoons and scribbles hostage in her Southampton estate.<\/p>\n<p>The legendary 89-year-old British-American art critic and <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2020\/11\/27\/anthony-haden-guests-career-as-a-cartoonist-is-flourishing\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cartoonist<\/a> filed a Manhattan Supreme Court complaint, demanding the immediate return of 97 \u201coriginal drawings and cartoons\u201d he claims Mugrabi has been \u201cwrongfully\u201d displaying on her walls for 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>Haden-Guest says the large collection consists of artwork worth at least $1,000 a pop, and Mugrabi \u201chas refused to return them despite repeated demands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>High society art critic Anthony Haden-Guest, 89, has sued fashionista Libbie Mugrabi, accusing her of keeping 97 of his cartoons and scribbles hostage in her Southampton estate. Patrick McMullan via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The two were longtime pals, with Haden-Guest frequently accompanying the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/06\/08\/libbie-mugrabi-claims-ex-asked-about-a-hitman-to-kill-her\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">litigious Mugrabi to court with her arm draped over him.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He says the drawings were originally framed and hung on Mugrabi\u2019s walls fifteen years ago \u201csolely for exhibition and sale purposes,\u201d the Manhattan Supreme Court filing claims.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of returning the goods, Mugrabi allegedly kept the art hanging.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, Haden-Guest was offered a pair of art shows for his doodles, and told his old friend he \u201curgently\u201d needed them back.<\/p>\n<p>He even offered Mugrabi the chance to buy whatever she wanted for a friend\u2019s-only price of $750, but the drawings were never returned, the suit claims.<\/p>\n<p>The famous British-American art critic demanded the return of his \u201coriginal drawings and cartoons\u201d that have been \u201cwrongfully\u201d displayed on Mugrabi\u2019s walls for 15 years. Stephen Yang<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was no contemplation whatsoever that [Mugrabi] would own the Drawings,\u201d the suit states.<\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2023\/07\/12\/rfk-jr-press-dinner-explodes-in-war-of-words-and-farts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Haden-Guest<\/a> also claims Mugrabi stiffed him on a 2023 oral agreement to help design her fashion and clothing brand.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Haden-Guest says he logged six months of creative labor drafting up looks, bags, hats, and even handkerchief concepts at $3,000 a month \u2014 stiffing him for $18,000.<\/p>\n<p>Mugrabi has yet to return the drawings as Haden-Guest has made \u201crepeated demands\u201d while mentioning the artwork is worth at least $1000 a pop, according to the suit.
