If an investment in downtown leads a business to relocate to San Antonio in a district outside downtown, the whole community benefits. If a resident from San Antonio\u2019s Southeast Side drives down Commerce Street for a community event, the benefit transcends a single council district.<\/p>\n
The type of district-specific thinking that Mungia advocates is a Pandora\u2019s box. If we carve out downtown infrastructure for a Spurs arena, are we going to carve out infrastructure investments in other areas?<\/p>\n
Perhaps North Side voters don\u2019t want to approve flooding and drainage projects on the West Side. Perhaps South Side voters don\u2019t want to approve a community center in District 10 on the Northeast Side. Perhaps District 10 voters don\u2019t want to approve green spaces on the far South Side.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s not go down this path.<\/p>\n
Bexar County and San Antonio voters approved a downtown Spurs arena.
