\n\tJorge Gutierrez<\/a> said he is no longer going to make an AI-generated animated series for Amazon\u2019s Prime Video under the company\u2019s new initiative to fund AI entertainment projects \u2014 and he apologized to \u201cthose I upset\u201d after a backlash about news of his involvement was announced this week.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI have decided to drop out of the AI program at Amazon,\u201d Gutierrez wrote on social media Friday. \u201cI will not be making a Punky Duck series. Actions speak louder than words.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGutierrez continued, \u201cMy intent was to showcase artists, both new and seasoned, both inside and outside the studios, driving this new tech. My sincerest apology to those I upset. I promise to do better moving forward. Thank you for your patience with me. I will try harder.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAmazon MGM had described Gutierrez\u2019s planned \u201cPunky Duck\u201d AI-generated series as featuring a \u201clovable punk duck and his best friend, Smiley Cat\u201d set in a chaotic L.A. landscape beset by an alien invasions, monsters and other \u201csupernatural mayhem.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tReps for Amazon MGM did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n

\n\tGutierrez was originally announced as leading one of three projects Amazon MGM Studios had greenlight under its new GenAI Creators\u2019 Fund<\/a>, which is providing funding and access to AI production tools to filmmakers, digital creators and tech startups for developing premium TV shows and movies. Amazon MGM is teaming with sister organization AWS to launch what they claim will be the industry\u2019s first purpose-built AI production platform.<\/p>\n

\n\tGutierrez is the writer-director of animated feature film \u201cThe Book of Life\u201d for 20th Century Studios and creator of \u201cEl Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera\u201d for Nickelodeon and \u201cMaya and the Three\u201d for Netflix. <\/p>\n

I am absolutely understanding the concern of using AI to assist an animation pipeline. For all those showing me grace, I really appreciate it. I have a lot to think about.\u201d<\/p>\n
