An\u00a0explosion <\/a>rocked a north Oak Cliff apartment building Thursday afternoon, killing at least two women and a child. Nearly 100 firefighters responded to the fire at the two-story building\u00a0known as The Clyde in the 400 block of east 9th Street, near Patton Avenue.\u00a0<\/p>\n During a press conference Thursday evening, Dallas Fire-Rescue Public Information Officer Jason Evans confirmed 23 people lived in the units. The five-alarm\u00a0fire <\/a>resulted in complete demolishment of the apartment building, leaving many families with nothing but what they could carry.\u00a0<\/p>\n Many North Texans are wondering how they can help, either through material or financial donations or volunteer work.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Donate<\/strong><\/p>\n Donation efforts are being hosted by several local\u00a0businesses and organizations. The following locations are accepting items such as water, non-perishable food items,\u00a0gently used or new clothing, baby formula and diapers, personal hygiene items, blankets and pillows. They will also be collecting monetary donations.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Mission Oak Cliff provides help to Dallasites in need throughout the Oak Cliff area. They focus on ending the cycle of poverty, food insecurity and encourage relationships between neighbors. The mission is located at 111 South\u00a0Beckley Ave. and will be accepting donations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, June 1, through Thursday, June 4.<\/p>\n During donation acceptions\u00a0on Friday, Church Administrator Barbara\u00a0Evetts noted the Mission is now looking to accept more gift card donations as opposed to physical donations.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re shifting to gift cards and support more in that way than clothes and water,\u201d she said. \u201cAt this point, we have an abundance of water and clothing.\u201d<\/p>\n A local gym known as Oak Cliff Muscle Factory, in partnership with retail store Oak Cliff Co., will be accepting donations at 408 West Jefferson\u00a0Blvd., Suite 200, continuously. They are located\u00a0at\u00a09218 Garland Road, Suite 2109 and\u00a0111 West Davis St., Suite 170.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Those who want to donate directly to tenants, financially, who lost their homes and belongings, can visit the following GoFund.Me pages.<\/p>\n Eric Peters<\/a> is a tenant who lost both his home and car in the fire. In the GoFund.Me, Peters wrote, “I was inside working from home. In an instant, I lost everything\u2014my home, my clothes, my car, and my phone. I managed to escape with only a T-shirt and shorts, climbing through the rubble with no shoes on, surrounded by bricks and glass. Porter wrote, “Bre lost everything in the blast, including her furniture, clothes, pet supplies, and all of her personal belongings are destroyed or ruined. In an instant, she was left with nothing and now has to start over from scratch. Fortunately, her dogs were rescued… Donations will go toward replacing essential items like clothing, household necessities, pet supplies, and anything else she needs to begin rebuilding her life.”<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Natali Duran started a fundraiser <\/a>for her aunt and uncle, writing that they relied on each other, and “even though they aren\u2019t things that can be replaced, any and all donations are appreciated and will contribute to starting over.”<\/p>\n Maria Rodriguez<\/a> and her two children escaped the fire with their lives and nothing else. She wrote, “The baby photos of my children and the pictures of my late father are gone. Most of all, we are now homeless, and I am struggling to figure out what to do next. I was just discharged from the hospital after being treated for burns on my arms. The shock and pain are still fresh, but I know I have to keep going for my kids…Right now, we need help with temporary housing, food, and transportation. My children need clothes and shoes, and we have to start from scratch to rebuild our lives.”<\/p>\n Support<\/strong><\/p>\n The Dallas Police Department established a family assistance center<\/a> Thursday night at W.H. Adamson High School, located on the same street as the apartment complex.<\/p>\n A vigil <\/a>is being hosted at the high school at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening.
