{"id":830868,"date":"2026-05-29T21:16:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T21:16:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/830868\/"},"modified":"2026-05-29T21:16:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T21:16:20","slug":"big-12-becoming-first-p4-conference-to-have-all-members-agree-to-csc-participation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/830868\/","title":{"rendered":"Big 12 becoming first P4 conference to have all members agree to CSC participation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FRISCO, Texas (AP) \u2014 The Big 12 is becoming the first Power Four conference to have each of its members sign participation agreements with the College Sports Commission, the agency formed last year <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nil-college-sports-rosters-csc-b17ab429c3aa6b6642c077aab11d0ab2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to police name, image and likeness payments.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Big 12 wants rules and enforcements, and we want to be a leader in that area,\u201d commissioner Brett Yormark said Friday after the league wrapped up four days of annual meetings. \u201cI think signing the participation agreement certainly is indicative of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The agreement requires schools to waive their right to file lawsuits against the enforcement agency and gives it wide latitude to sanction programs for violating rules that outline how players can be paid after the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ncaa-settlement-opt-outs-8689d58826e7ace7e9ec2f4b06c6ace3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">House settlement<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n<p>But all 68 Power Four schools must sign <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/college-sports-nil-csc-rules-ed5bb4c29ff0cea37321c8fd9caa23e9\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the 11-page document<\/a> for it to become valid. All schools had initially been asked to review and sign the document by last December.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t speak for the other conferences. I mean, obviously they all say they want rules and enforcement, but they haven\u2019t signed the participation agreement,\u201d Yormark said.<\/p>\n<p>Richard Linton, president of Kansas State, said the Big 12 board of directors \u2014 composed of the presidents and chancellors from the league\u2019s 16 schools \u2014 unanimously agreed to sign the document.<\/p>\n<p>Yormark said the league expected to have all the signatures by early next week.<\/p>\n<p>The document outlines rules that have been established since the House settlement was approved last summer \u2014 for instance, about the salary cap and the CSC\u2019s role in analyzing third-party name, image, likeness deals <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nil-college-sports-ee244ca89f18d269e7fb15a251455fe5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">through its NIL Go platform<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ncaa-house-settlement-college-sports-commission-868c5c4843ff8d6d11134763408c343d\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bryan Seeley,<\/a> the CEO of the CSC, addressed Big 12 members and league officials this week during their meetings in North Texas.<\/p>\n<p>The CSC says it has cleared more than 26,000 NIL deals worth some $242.3 million through May 1 since its launch.<\/p>\n<p>Yormark said he was on a call earlier Friday with the CSC and other conference commissioners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike any startup, and the CSC is a startup, not even 12 months old, you have to think about what\u2019s working and what\u2019s not and what are the necessary adjustments both short-term and long-term that we should be considering,\u201d Yormark said. \u201cAnd we\u2019re going to dive into that a little bit more in the coming weeks to determine what that might look like. &#8230; But I\u2019m bullish on the direction of the CSC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>___<\/p>\n<p>Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season.
