{"id":83126,"date":"2025-07-22T12:06:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T12:06:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/83126\/"},"modified":"2025-07-22T12:06:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T12:06:10","slug":"scottie-scheffler-laughs-as-manager-fires-cheap-shot-at-rory-mcilroy-after-the-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/83126\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottie Scheffler laughs as manager fires cheap shot at Rory McIlroy after The Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Scottie Scheffler&#8217;s manager Blake Smith mocked Rory McIlroy immediately after the World No.1 won The Open for the first time in his career at Royal Portrush on Sunday.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Golf Digest&#8217;s Jamie Kennedy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/players\/scottie-scheffler\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Scheffler<\/a>&#8216;s manager Blake, son of his long-time golf coach Randy Smith, couldn&#8217;t help but fire a cheap shot at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/players\/rory-mcilroy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">McIlroy<\/a> straight after his press conference at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/tour\/open-championship\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Open<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scheffler, 29, saw out a commanding four-shot victory at golf&#8217;s final major of the season at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/courses\/uk-and-ireland\/royal-portrush-golf-club-course-review\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Royal Portrush<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It marked Scheffler\u2019s fourth victory of the PGA Tour season and his fourth career major title, moving him one leg away from the career grand slam in the process.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scheffler also becomes the fourth player to win The Masters, PGA and The Open all before the age of 30, joining Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player in the record books.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/2025-07-20t192044z_38090903_mt1usatoday26675117_rtrmadp_3_pga-the-153rd-open-final-round-1.JPG\" alt=\"Scottie Scheffler\" width=\"2621\" height=\"1753\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Scottie Scheffler<\/p>\n<p>Smith, who works at Hambric Sports where he has also represented the likes of five-time major champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/players\/brooks-koepka\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brooks Koepka<\/a>, told Scheffler that he has now completed his own grand slam of all four majors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Only it was his parting comment that was clearly a dig at McIlroy, who chose to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/tour\/us-pga\/rory-mcilroy-storms-out-pga-championship-sluggish-final-round-and-snubs-media-again\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">decline all interviews<\/a> when two members of the media leaked information that his driver had been deemed<a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/equipment\/news\/report-rory-mcilroy-involved-equipment-controversy-pga-championship\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> &#8216;non-conforming&#8217;<\/a> ahead of the PGA Championship in May.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>McIlroy, who completed the career grand slam at The Masters in April, eventually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/tour\/pga-tour\/rory-mcilroy-explains-media-blackout-i-was-p-ed\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">addressed his media blackout<\/a> when he spoke to reporters at the RBC Canadian Open in June.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As Smith clasped hands on the famous Claret Jug, he was heard saying: &#8220;That\u2019s a good one, that\u2019s a good one.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Scheffler then turned to Smith and said: &#8220;Does that complete your four?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Blake replied: &#8220;Yeah, I\u2019m done&#8230; I won&#8217;t talk to the media for a month now,&#8221; which drew World No.1 Scheffler to laughter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Did Scottie&#8217;s manager take a sly shot at Rory after his press conference?<\/p>\n<p>Scottie (handing his manager the trophy): \u201cDoes that complete your four?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Manager: \u201cYeah, I\u2019m done.
