(7News) \u2014 D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser will kick off the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP), which is coming back for its 46th year.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative is locally funded and provides young people in the nation&#8217;s capital with summer work experiences through subsidized placements in private and government sectors. Learn expert tips to reduce your debt and regain control<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The program was also named in honor of former Mayor and MBSYEP founder Marion Barry.<\/p>\n<p>Through MBSYEP, participants can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Earn money and gain meaningful work experience<\/li>\n<li>Develop skills, attitudes and commitment necessary to succeed in today\u2019s world of work<\/li>\n<li>Gain exposure to various exciting career industries<\/li>\n<li>Interact with dynamic working professionals in a positive work environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Local employers also play a part in the program by volunteering to serve as hosts and presenting job opportunities for youth.<\/p>\n<p>Bowser will kick off the program at 11 a.m. at Trinity Washington University.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"WASHINGTON, D.C.
