Mitchell to conduct the Pathway Home operation on\u00a0May 27 and 28.\u00a0Outreach teams from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) and the service provider St. Joseph Center worked for weeks to build trust with unsheltered residents who accepted offers of interim housing. Service providers\u00a0PATH and HOPICS\u00a0will work with\u00a0residents\u00a0at various interim housing sites.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Pathway Home operation reflects both the multi-jurisdictional reality of the homelessness crisis and what is possible when government agencies, service providers, and community partners work together with urgency and compassion to bring people indoors and connect them to the care and stability they deserve,\u201d\u00a0<b>said Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell. \u00a0<\/b>\u201cFor too long, individuals living along the 405-freeway corridor faced dangerous and inhumane conditions. Through sustained outreach and relationship-building, we were able to earn the trust of our unhoused neighbors and support their transition through the County\u2019s Pathway Home process toward permanent housing, healing, and hope. \u00a0I am grateful to every partner who helped make this operation possible and remain committed to advancing solutions that address homelessness with dignity and accountability.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This operation was also made possible by support from Caltrans; the City of Inglewood; the City of Los Angeles; the Office of LA City Councilmember\u00a0Traci Park, whose district includes the Westchester area;\u00a0the\u00a0Inglewood Police Department; the Los Angeles Police Department; and the\u00a0California Highway Patrol.\u00a0LA\u00a0County Departments\u00a0of Mental Health\u00a0and Animal Care and Control\u00a0also provided support.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe City of Inglewood is proud to have collaborated with the Los Angeles County Department of Homeless Services and Housing on the\u00a0Pathway Home\u00a0initiative,\u201d said\u00a0<b>City\u00a0of\u00a0Inglewood\u00a0Mayor James T. Butts, Jr.<\/b>\u00a0\u201cThis\u00a0was a collaborative, multi-agency effort that required extensive planning, coordination, and resource allocation over several months. Through this partnership, the initiative achieved a humane and compassionate outcome for both our unsheltered neighbors and the surrounding community residents.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s inspiring to watch our teams at work on Pathway Home operations\u2014like this one near the 405 Freeway\u2014as they\u00a0build trust with\u00a0unhoused individuals, bring them\u00a0inside,\u00a0and help launch them onto a pathway to permanent\u00a0housing,\u201d said\u00a0<b>Sarah Mahin, Director of HSH<\/b>. \u201cWe\u00a0are grateful for our many\u00a0community partners\u00a0who came together to bring\u00a027\u00a0LA County residents\u00a0safely\u00a0off the streets.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Once\u00a0people have vacated the area and moved into motels\u00a0and other interim housing, Caltrans is expected to clear the area of debris and undertake mitigation measures to minimize the likelihood of future encampments.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor months, residents raised serious concerns about the public safety, sanitation, environmental, and humanitarian conditions along the\u00a0405 freeway\u00a0corridor between La Cienega and La Tijera \u2014 and they were right to be concerned,\u201d said\u00a0<b>Los Angeles City Councilmember Traci Park, Council District 11<\/b>. \u201cNo one should be living in dangerous and unsanitary conditions along a freeway embankment and flood control corridor. Because of our collaborative efforts, dozens of people have now been connected to housing and supportive services, and trash and hazardous waste is being cleared.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>LA County conducts\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/homeless.lacounty.gov\/pathway-home\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pathway Home<\/a>, its signature encampment resolution effort, in partnership with cities and unincorporated areas. The program brings people off the streets into immediately available interim housing accompanied by a comprehensive suite of supportive services, and, ultimately, into safe, permanent housing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Inglewood\/Westchester\u00a0operation is part of the County\u2019s multi-year initiative funded by a $51 million Encampment Resolution Fund (ERF) grant providing resources and housing to people in encampments along state highways and the Los Angeles and San Gabriel rivers. Past operations occurred in the cities of Inglewood, Downey, Norwalk, Bellflower, South Gate, Santa Fe Springs, and in unincorporated West Athens.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pathway Home is partially funded by\u202fMeasure A, a\u00a0\u00bd-cent sales tax approved by voters in November\u202f2024\u202fto repeal and replace Measure H. Funding also pays for removal of any non-operational recreational vehicles (RVs), trash, and other debris that accumulates at encampments. It also covers costs associated with securing interim housing sites, such as motels and site security.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This latest operation is LA County\u2019s 76th Pathway Home encampment resolution. Since the program\u2019s launch in August 2023,\u00a0nearly 2,100\u00a0LA County residents have moved off the\u00a0streets, with more than 600 permanently housed. These operations have also contributed to the removal of more than 1,100 RVs from the streets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">###\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Homeless Services and Housing (HSH)\u00a0consolidates\u00a0LA County\u2019s response to homelessness. The driving force behind HSH is increasing accountability and transparency, improving care for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, and streamlining collaboration with partners including services providers, the County\u2019s 88 cities, Councils of Government, and unincorporated areas to deliver high-quality, life-saving care.
